Since reform and opening up,especially after entering the WTO,China's economy has been developed rapidly,people started to pay their attention to sports.After the success of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games,we followed the pace of the world,Chinese have been keen on sports training.The demand for sports English-talents has been increased.Since sports organizations sbroad try to exchanges and cooperation with China,the sports English-talents became more and more important.Many sport universities have set up the major of sports English.Even they have cultivated many graduates,but most of them are not professional enough,they were not able to be competent for the job of sports English.The author of this thesis finded some problems during the four-year study time at sports English major in Harbin sport university.Sports English belongs to English for specific purposes(ESP),both connection and difference exist between ESP and EGP(English for general purposes).Even now most sports universities have spended much effort to feform in english education,but the effect is limited.The reason is that teachers have not focus on the diraction of ESP,they didn't emphasize the difference from EGP.So the author chosen ESP as the research perspective of this thesis.The thesis try to analyze the advantage and shortage of sports English major from the aspects of personnel training programs,curriculum provision,tesching staff,teaching material construction and teaching methods,to find the problems and to solve them.The methods of this research are questionnaire survey,expert interview and field observation,try to optimization and analysis about English major and contribute for Harbin Sports University.
