Chinese textbooks of primary school not only can spread knowledge but also can broadcast the mainstream value of the society.As a kind of particular social culture,the figures of children reflect how adults define children,what they expected on children as well as the level of social development and social civilization.At the same time,they are also of great importance on presenting the value concept,traditional consciousness and social psychology in the society.The figures of children have been paid much attention and have been researched much by literature,sociology,education and other disciplines since they were put up.The figures of children selected and shaped in Chinese primary school textbooks are vivid,infectious and have the similar age to primary school students who are in the stage of continuous growth and development with strong curiosity,imitation and aspiration for knowledge.Primary school students can be easily attracted by unique figures of children in their textbooks and have worship and yearning for them.As a result,the textbook writers can convey the mainstream social values and traditional culture to the children by constructing the figures of children in textbooks.It is of great significance for textbook writers,teachers and students to explore the cultural value of the figures of children in Jiang su primary school Chinese textbooks.This study chooses the figures of children as the starting point,using the literature method,the content analysis method and the interview method to research the Jiang su Chinese textbooks of the primary school.The main analysis frame of this study is the era which the figures of children are in,under which are children's external figures(including gender,nationality and identity)and internal figures(including psychological image and moral image).Through statistics and analysis from various aspects,it is found that the values of Jiang su Chinese textbooks of the primary school include the focus on the fusion and inheritance of cultures,the joyful growth and development of child psychology,student-centeredness and harmony.The study also reveals the advantages of the textbooks,such as uneven distribution of era,severe gender prejudice,adult animation trend and the distribution of children's identity.Therefore,some suggestions on writing Chinese textbooks are put up:arrange the figures of children in different times reasonably,pay attention to the gender of the figures of children and their times and give the nature o children back.
