Discipline knowledge refers to the concepts,principles and skills in a specific discipline as well as their structure and quantity in the mind of a teacher.In this paper,the second edition of national children gymnastics,named "What a Wonderful World",is studied,with the purpose of understanding the status quo of kindergarten teachers'PE knowledge and exploring the factors that influence kindergarten teachers' PE knowledge.In this study,50 teachers—80%from public kindergartens and 20%from private kindergarten—chosen out of 10 kindergartens in Changshu City are surveyed.Two parts of self-designed research tools are applied here:one part is "The Grading Table for a Teacher's Verbal Expression in Gymnastic Teaching","The Grading Table for a Teacher's Action Demonstration in Gymnastic Teaching","The Grading Table for a Teacher's Description of the Development Value of Each Gymnastic Section",and corresponding grading standards;the other part is the outline of teacher interviews.In this paper,descriptive statistics are used to investigate the status quo of 50 kindergarten teachers' PE knowledge;one-way analysis of variance and independent samples t-test are conducted to examine how a kindergarten teacher's educational background,specialty,teaching age and professional title as well as the nature and grade of a kindergarten influence the teacher's PE knowledge;meanwhile,interviews are conducted to analyze the factors that influence a kindergarten teacher 's PE knowledge.According to the results,these 50 kindergarten teachers generally have a moderate grasp of PE knowledge,a majority of them can discover the essential concepts or experience in "What a Wonderful World",and part of them are able to make corresponding interpretation.In the discussion of influencing factors,it is discovered that a kindergarten teacher's specialty and the nature and grade of a kindergarten have insignificant impacts on the teacher's PE knowledge,though the average grades within the group obviously vary;in addition,a teacher's educational background,teaching age and professional title have significant impacts on his PE knowledge.Based on interview data,this paper puts forward four suggestions for improving kindergarten teachers' PE knowledge,namely,"to revise and enrich the content of normal education curricula","to strengthen on-the-job trainings and refine their contents","to enhance teachers' learning initiative and increase their discipline knowledge",and "to alter kindergarten heads' concepts and to value PE knowledge".
