Nowadays it is difficult for our rhythmic gymnastics team to achieve outstanding performance in international competitions.The underachievement is not because our athletes lack the skills,but because the athletes cannot perform the whole series of moves very well,and the movements are incongruous with music and thus it cannot interpret the meaning and emotions of the moves.By the international rule,from the early 20 th century rhythmic gymnastics could not be accompanied by music with lyrics.However,2013 to 2016,there were new rules about the accompaniment music in artistic gymnastics-accompaniment music with lyrics is allowed in athletic competition.This dissertation will use the reform about accompaniment music to explore the influence of different music forms on athletes as well as their performance in hopes of achieving unexpected meaning and results.In hopes of giving more constructive advices about how to improve the artistic performance of athletes both in training and in formal games and in order to make some contributions to the development of rhythmic gymnastics in my country,this dissertation uses rhythmic gymnastic athletes of Sichuan Province and students from Chengdu Sport Institute as subjects,consults literature and uses questionnaire,interviews and experiments to reach the conclusion that absolute music and songs have different effects on the performance of athletes.The research shows that:1.Artistic expression is the ability of rhythmic gymnastic athletes to influence the audience with their performances and convey their artistic ability and aesthetic spirit to the referee,and music is one of the important factors to influence athletes' performances.2.Rhythmic gymnastic athletes prefer music with lyrics because lyrics can inspire more emotions in athletes and their desire to perform.3.experiments prove : Different music forms indeed evoke different understandings and reactions in rhythmic gymnastic athletes.Athletes who choose music with lyrics as accompaniment tend to perform better than those who chose music without lyrics.4.Lyrics of the accompaniment music can become the instructions,which can give athletes the directions to perform with their body movement and emotions.On the basis of the conclusion,suggestions about different music forms can be made in order to improve athletes' performance.1.In terms of accompaniment music,music with lyrics or music that athletes are familiar with can be chosen to make up the lack of overall music knowledge of athletes.2.There should be systematic training of music for athletes and coaches to foster their understanding of music.They can also familiarize themselves with the accompaniment music by practicing over and over again so that they can be familiar with the rhythm.By integrating music and their actions better,athletes can achieve a better performance.3.In the training courses of rhythmic gymnastics,the lyrics of accompaniment music can be used as orders so that athletes can perform with a much clearer purpose with their body movement and emotions.4.Athletes should learn things like the meaning,author,emotions and the background of the music.By analyzing the music itself,athletes can perform the whole series of actions better and can have a better management of their own emotions.
