Lu Xun's view of reading and writing is the accumulated sum of his thoughts on reading and writing throughout his life. The reasons for the formation of his view include his family education background, his personal academic experiences through "old" and "new" time and at both home abroad, and his teaching practices. This study focuses on the specific connotation and core elements of Lu Xun's view of reading and writing. His view of reading covers the two aspects of reading emotions and reading methods. His view of writing covers the two aspects of writing noumenon and literary thoughts. This thesis further discusses that the core elements are speech, criticism and the connection of reading and writing. Finally, this thesis emphasizes the contemporary revelation of Lu Xun's view of reading and writing, and affirms the significance of Lu Xun's view of reading and writing in contemporary times. The view of reading and writing is the sum of the two kinds of activities—reading and writing that are interrelated, intersecting and have inherent logical relations. Lu Xun's view of reading will be analyzed from the perspective of the "directory" screening method and the reading emotions that include pleasure in amateur reading and pain in professional reading. Reading method is the way how a reader actively chooses or designates certain reading methods in the process of reading. Lu Xun's view of writing is based on his systematic and rational understanding of the writing process. His view of writing is mainly about writing noumenon, and rejecting fancy decorations and pursuing true self, Lu Xun values the kind of writing that reject fancy decorations and pursue true self instead of the kind that is artificial, exaggerating, and garish. In addition, Lu Xun's view of writing also emphasizes the unity of literariness and ideology, i.e., the clarity of thoughts and the mastery of techniques. It is necessary to emphasize clear thoughts and pay attention to the importance of rhetoric. The analysis of the core elements as to the view of reading and writing is built on the independence of language.Lu Xun's view of writing utilizes "establishing oneself' as the core and the thought of"establishing one's language" as an innovative point. He is concerned with the liberation and freedom of the individual's spirit, thus advocating the idea that "writing" is about establishing oneself." Therefore, Lu Xun's view of writing represents the revolution from the traditional idea that “writing represents oneself ' to the more modern idea that "writing establishes oneself." Such revolution has significant implications in the contemporary context. The integration of reading and writing is the unification of reading and writing. Lu Xun said that one shouldn't write when he/she does not feel right and writing is a natural activity out of the excess of reading. Lu Xun's view of writing view is closely related to the idea of "establishing oneself',and "establishing oneself' is the root of "writing," which permeates Lu Xun's works. At the same time,Lu Xun's view of reading and writing is his personal understanding of reading and writing mechanism, and reading and writing practice based on his own life experiences. His view has been nourished by Darwinism and Humanism, thus exhibiting a different style. As for the inspiration by Lu Xun's view of reading and writing for the current teaching of Chinese, it will be covered from two aspects—the three-dimensional reading levels, and the critical writing with "nerve induction" style and "throwing a knife" style. The three-dimensional reading emphasizes the contact with the real life. Lu Xun's critical view of writing is not about his "throwing a knife" styled fighting posture, but his seeking of the salvation of the nationals with a heart of humanism. His view of writing shows a concern for the real life, and it is critical, but this criticism is full of deep love for the country and the people. This kind of critical writing is noble and built upon admirable social responsibilities.
