Biology textbooks of junior high school set up "extracurricular inquiry" column specially, in order to extend students' inquiry-based learning from the class to the outside,let students to experience the fun of scientific inquiry, understand the scientific inquiry method and develop the scientific inquiry ability in the process of inquiry-based learning.The research methods of this thesis include educational survey (questionnaire and interview), document analysis and statistical method, etc; the object of the study is the students and teachers from six junior high schools(key school?ordinary school and rural school) in Jiangbei district. The thesis carries out a study about the implementation of"extracurricular inquiry" column. The thesis makes a comparatively comprehensive research on three ways, includes "developing condition of 'extracurricular inquiry'column","Students' interests in extracurricular inquiry" and "the difficulties encountered by teachers and students meet with carrying out extracurricular inquiry", and provide in-depth analysis of the date. The results of the study are: The frequency of'extracurricular inquiry' column is relatively low under the combined effects of many factors such as academic pressure, the inquiry level of student, etc; Students are interested in extracurricular inquiry, especially partial to the real life activities and experimental activities; Students lack of inquiry skills, so they often show the dependence in carrying out extracurricular inquiry. In response to the arising problems,this thesis puts forward the suggestions in using of "extracurricular inquiry" column effectively, which is based on the depth analysis of educational theory and field interview. According to the existing problem, the thesis puts forward some reasonable suggestions for the effective use of "extracurricular inquiry" column from five aspects:"Types of inquiry activities", "Time and Place", "Organization and Management","Implement method" and "Activity evaluation". According to the using suggestions,the thesis develops three cases of extracurricular inquiry, such as "Comparison of vitamin C in several common fruits", "Making simple model of measuring vital capacity" and"Investigate the situation of local acid rain ",in types of "experiment","model" and"investigation".
