St.John's University was an institution of higher education which was founded by the Episcopal Church in the United States of America.St.John's University stood out from other missionary universities,and was hailed as “the Harvard of the East”,for its longest history,larger school size and powerful social effect.St.John's University set up a bridge between China's traditional culture and modern American culture.As the important collecting and distributing centers of American culture,in modern China,not only did it promote modernization course of China,but also take Chinese culture to America society.In recent years,as China is asserting increasing influence over international affairs,Chinese culture is witnessing much more exchanges and collisions with foreign ones.So,researches on St.John's University could bring us more inspirations on dealing with culture communication issues today.The thesis,regarding development of St.John's University as the main line,inquires into its functions and influence in Sino-American cultural relationship with cultural exchanges perspective.And basing on the background of international political environment,this article discusses further early Sino-American communication mode and the development of relations between the two countries.Finally,we summarizes the historical experience and lesson of early Sino-America cultural exchange,to find the useful implications for today.
