With economic globalization,national exchanges are becoming more frequent,especially the rapid development of China's international trade and foreign exchange,people are increasingly aware of the importance of learning international language-English,which resulted in the hot phenomenon of English learning.At the same time,English learners are getting younger,thereby English teaching activities are carried out in so many kindergartens.Children's English learning can promote the development of their language intelligence.Learning two languages can increase the sensitivity to recognize the differences between languages,which make it easier and more effcetive to learn language through mastering different structures and characteristics of language.In the course of communication,bilingual children can use different language according to different situations or different people,so compared to monolingual children,they are more sensitive to social situations and have more capabilities to communicate with others.The theory research of China's bilingual education started late,but there are lots of practical results obtained in kindergarten English teaching after years of development.English education has become the hot topic of early childhood education,kindergarten English teaching activities is the main way for young children to learn English,it's necessary for us to do a survey about kindergarten English teaching status,in order to understand children's English learning process.The survey of kindergarten English teaching objectives?teaching materials selection?teaching methods and teaching evaluation will help to understand the general characteristics of kindergarten English teaching.The investigation of English teaching and research and education training hold in kindergarten can help to understand the teachers' level and development direction.The investigation of parents 'participation in kindergarten English education activities can help to analyze the cooperation between home and kindergarten in children English learning so as to improve the parents' participation consciousness and education level.Based on the research results of kindergarten English teaching,this paper summarizes the the related research of Children English education including existing research results and points out the shortcomings of the existing research,and makes the current research trend and direction.Based on the theory of critical period,the theory of Krashen's second language acquisition and Piaget's cognitive development theory,this paper uses literatures?questionnaires?observation and interviews to investigate the status of English teaching in the three public kindergartens of Xi'an,including doing questionares to 47 teachers and 208 parents,and interviews with five English teachers,and observes 10 English teaching activities.Based on the investigation of the current situation of English teaching in kindergarten,this study puts forward some suggestions to improve the teaching of kindergarten English teaching through the analysis and summary to the results of children's English teaching and the problems presented.Under the guidance of critical period theory?Krashen's second language acquisition theory and Piaget 's cognitive development theory,this paper investigates the present situation of English teaching carried out in three public kindergartens by the way of questionnaire,interview and observation.The contents of the survey include:English teaching objectives.English teaching materials?the main teaching contents?the teacher's understanding of children's English teaching principles?teaching methods?teaching evaluation and exchange between home and kindergarten of children's English learning and so on.Through the analysis of the data and materials,this paper analyzes the current situation of English teaching in the three kindergartens,including the orientation of English education?the selection of English teaching materials?the main content of teaching?the teaching methods?teaching evaluation?the cooperation of home and kindergarten.Based on the observation,the paper analyzes the problems existing in the teaching practice,and puts forward the main educational suggestions.The results show that most English teachers and parents have a positive attitude towards English education and take children's English interest as the main goal.Teaching content selected and methods used can take the child's cognitive characteristics and learning needs into consideration.Teachers and parents are satisfactory to the teaching effect as a whole.Some problems was found when investigating at the same time:1.the teaching objectives focus on mastering English knowledge.2.Teaching method is single?fixed and lack of vitality.3.Teachers are short on English professional knowledge.4 there is little cooperation between home and kindergarten in children's English teaching.In view of the problems existed,the author put forward corresponding recommendations:1.The conceptual goal of children's English education should in line with its practice.2.Rich teaching methods and create an easy and comfortable teaching environment.3.Improve children English teacher's quality.4.Establish the connection between home and kindergarten in English learning.
