With the increasing continuous depth of our reform and opening-up and the increasing width of our international communications,English as an international language has become an indispensable tool with which people of the twenty-first century can develop world-wide communication and cooperation.As the basis of elementary education,kindergarten English teaching has become more concerned and emphasized and has been vigorously developing.But in reality,the kindergarten English teaching activities are both good and bad,the results of which are not very idealistic.In order to increase the effectiveness of the kindergarten English teaching and to promote the children's good development,this thesis has made a study on the present problems,affecting factors and further development of the kindergarten English teaching.On the basis of classifying related literature,the present thesis chose as samples four kindergartens in Lixia District,Jinan City and employed an approach of questionnaire and observation to make research and analysis on their status quo of English teaching,the existing problems and affecting factors from such aspects as teaching goals,contents,organization, evaluation and teaching conditions.On this basis the author put forward her proposals and thoughts on the further development of the kindergarten English teaching in Jinan.The thesis consists of four parts:1.Introduction.It aims at exposing the advance of the questions,the literature review and the ways of thinking and methods.2.Analyses of the status quo and the existing problems in the kindergarten English teaching of Lixia District,Jinan City.3. Analyses of the factors affecting the English teaching of these kindergartens.4.The author's thinking and proposals for the development of the kindergarten English teaching of Lixia District, Jinan City.This study shows that to a large extent,the present kindergarten English teaching is not suited to the characteristics of body and mind of the pre-school children.The main symptoms are:1.The goals of teaching are exaggerated and confused.2.The teaching contents are short of coherence and correspondence.3.There is a tendency to adopt the teaching methods of primary school.4.The teaching environments are backward and the teaching conditions are deficient.5.The teaching assessment is not so scientific of effective.The main reasons causing these problems are:1.There are misunderstandings about "bilingual teaching","key-period hypothesis" and the professional role of kindergarten English teachers.2.There is no enough time for English teaching in kindergartens.3. The qualifications of the kindergarten English teachers are not very satisfying.4.There is a clear beneficial motivation in choosing teaching materials and a lack of scientific basis.To change the status quo,the following things should be done:1.Make sure of the essence of kindergarten English teaching—rudimentary education of foreign language.2.Rationally set up the goals of kindergarten English teaching—arousing children's interest in English and developing their initial ability to use the language.3.Choose appropriate English teaching materials—suited to the knowledge system of children's English.4.Enliven the teaching forms—object,ease,enjoyment and relaxation.5.Make the teaching assessment more scientific and rational—fellow the principle of development,theme and variety.6.Apply the English pedagogy "Theme Games".
