In 2006,Vietnam and China signed the strategic cooperation agreement called "two corridors and one circle",literally means:"Two corridors and One circle" in Chinese. After more than 10 years of implementation, this agreement has been effectively enhancing the bilateral relations in the fields of regional economy, transportation, trade&investment, especially greatly promoting the development of Vietnam's tourism sector.Among those, the infrastructure of public highway tourism as well as tourism services has been dramatically boosted.Along with the deepening cooperation in the framework of "two corridors and one circle",both governments have made great efforts to seek new initiatives to foster the development of tourism between two countries.Since 2010,China has kept becoming the largest source of tourists in Vietnam, the annual growth rate of tourists number reached 20%,specifically,in 2016 Vietnam received 2.7 million Chinese tourists, which accounted for 27%of the total foreign tourists to Vietnam. On the basis of analyzing the "two corridors and one circle" strategy together with the distribution of Vietnamese tourism resources, this paper is going to investigate the current situation and some shortcomings of Vietnamese public highway tourism. To this end, this study is going to conduct an investigation in some China-Vietnam's border provinces, which are involved in the "two corridors and one circle" strategy. The purpose of this investigation is to understand the awareness and expectation of Chinese tourists towards Vietnamese public highway tourism.Given the context of increasing outbound tourism and the emerging self-driving tourism in China, this research also comes up with some ideas for designing various tourism products and new tourism routes for highway tourism,to ultimately better the development of highway tourism and solve some shortcomings based on the characteristics and market demand of Vietnam's highway tourism. The paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction, which gives a brief introduction on research background, methodology, research purposes and meanings as well as research innovation. The second part goes into details by analyzing the tourism resources in some Vietnam-China's border provinces as well as the current state of Vietnam's tourism sector, such asthe scale of tourism development, travel agency analysis and immigration port management, etc.under the framework of "two corridors and one circle".Besides,in the second part, the paper also points out some impacts of "two corridors and one circle" strategy on the development of Vietnam's highway tourism.Next, the analysis of some shortcomings, opportunities and challenges of Vietnam's highway tourism will go as the third part of this study. The fourth part is going to elaborate on the investigation conducted on Chinese tourists in the "two corridors and one circLe" areas with the view of understanding their awareness and expectation towards Vietnam's highway tourism, specifically getting an insight into some requirements and concerns of the respondents in terms of language, transportation, infrastructure, tourism services, tourism routes,to name but a few.The paper ends up with the fifth part, which puts forward some proposals for improving the existing problems and some feasible corresponding measures to foster the development of Vietnam's highway tourism.
