An Analysis On The Fit Between Participation Demands And Abilities Of The Resident Community Of The Forest Park

With the development of people's pursuit of ecological and natural tourism,eco-tourism has become an important part of China's national economy.The forest park,as one of the important destinations of ecotourism,its' resident community's participation will affect the development of ecotourism.Community participation is a strategy for natural conservation and tourism development.It encourages community residents to participate personally.The fit between participation demands and abilities of the resident community has a great impact on the result of community participation.However,at present,few studies are conducted on the fit between community residents' participation demands and abilities.Most of forest parks in China are located in backward rural areas.The existing "Person-Job Fit" theory mainly focuses on highly educated staffs and does not apply to rural residents who are generally with less schooling.Therefore,this paper aims to construct the theory of the fit between participation demands and abilities of forest park residents,to understand the status quo of resident community's participation demands and abilities in tourism development,and to explore the ways of improving their fit degree.This paper selects the residents of six main villages in the NuoXi National Forest Park as the object of study.97 residents of the Forest Park were interviewed which included 177690 words and 8094 interview records.Based on qualitative analysis and grounded theory,using the QSR Nvivo11 to process the data,the theory is constructed by means of data collection,open coding,axial coding and selective coding.On the stage of data collection,raw materials are collected through semi-structured interviews.On the stage of open coding,68 concepts and 22 categories are found.9 categories are found on the stage of axial coding.At last,on the stage of selective coding,the participation demand model of resident community,the participation ability model of resident community,and the model of the fit between participation demands and abilities of resident community are constructed.The paper shows that the demand of residents in the forest park is composed of four aspects:social participation demand,economic participation demand,cultural participation demand and policy participation demand,among which the demand of economic participation is the strongest.The participation ability of forest park residents mainly includes technical knowledge,economic capacity,personal quality and social support.At this stage,forest park residents are not capable to meet their participation demands.They need to improve their abilities to enhance the fit between their participation demands and abilities.Three suggestions are put forward on how to improve the degree of fit between community residents' participation demands and their abilities.The first is to establish the education and training system.Second,to increase the employment opportunities for community residents.Third,to establish the regulatory and institutional guarantee mechanism.
