Land saving and intensive use is the necessary measure of urban sustainable development. The development of intensive land technology and mode is an indispensable part of land utilization.Reasonable supporting measures and improved land use mechanism can effectively promote the efficient use of urban land, and the cost and resources can be saved. It is an effective way that the implementation of saving and intensive land use model to achieve the sustainable development of urban construction.Analysis on the characteristics of different models of cities, since that each city has different applicability of land use, which is to pave the way for the promotion of a typical case of transplantation. This paper selected 60 typical cities as research samples, and selected 6 core indicators and 4 expansion indices to construct the index system on cluster analysis;comparing the results by using hierarchical clustering and k-means clustering, and the results are closed. Then to analyze the clustering results quantitatively and qualitatively and spatially,to summarize the common and unique features of cities that own the same land saving and intensive use patterns, and to name for each category in land saving and intensive use model;finally,5 cities were randomly selected in empirical analysis and validation of clustering results. The results of this paper are as follows:(1)Construction of cluster analysis index system of land use pattern. The 6 core indicators relying on the project were selected as the main index, according to the existed research results,4 expanded core indicators were summed up.Index system is consisted of 10 indicators data to establish the clustering analysis on land economical and intensive utilization patterns, and provide guidance on the future research.(2)The double constraint Euclid distance is chosen to replace the traditional distance calculation, and the hierarchical clustering method and the K-means clustering method were used to verify the results of clustering analysis. The cluster system automatically divided 60 cities into 7 classes.According to the principle of spatial clustering, the cities were divided into the following 11 modes.(3)6 indicators in established 10 indicators were selected, which are compared to the trend of mean value to quantitatively analyze the features of cities of the same patterns;the typical land-saving mode was summarized using the case data base, which is the basis of the third name system;according to the distribution of the 7cities in the geographical space, spatial characteristics of clustered city were analyzed.(4)The summary of the patterns were subdivided into 8classes,which are timing optimization, spatial expansion, underground development, centralized layout, industrial upgrading, leisure cleaning,"three old" transformation, development of new land. The 11 land use patterns were named by the three-level naming rules, and named modes system table were established.(5)5 cities were randomly selected for empirical analysis. The results showed that there are 4 cities are applicable to the summarized 11 patterns, but one city does not belong to the mode that the hierarchical clustering system automatically divided into, because this city does not have the same regional spatial and features according to the naming principle.Obviously, the results of the research on land saving and intensive use pattern still have the national applicability.
