It has become an indisputable fact and the focus of people's after dinner talking topic that the graduates can't find jobs easily, and people couldn't afford a house easily. Since the late nineties college enlarged enrollment, some universities set new majors blindly, took the"university city"construction as the bright spot of attracting investment, expanded campus scale rapidly and invested heavily in building hardware facilities to improve the overall ranking while others are in an intense condition of extremely crowd and short of teaching facilities and education resources due to construction speed not catching up with the increased enrollment speed. Overall, the land condition in our counties'universities construction is irregular and disorder. Economical and intensive land utilization is the inevitable requirement of building the saving-type society and developing circular economy, as a teaching organization, colleges should make a good example for the whole society.The paper discusses the in and abroad studies on economical and intensive land utilization of research Universities and then brings up the study content and method etc of this paper. That is to take the land situation of research Universities as a pointcut, combine the"92 Quota","96 Index","421 standard"and the indicators of basic conditions for running universities and colleges in 2004, make a comparative analysis of the actual data on the size of student number, the campus area of land and building size and per student scale etc. Start with the current situation of the college construction land, study and analyze the following two aspects: the first is the impact factors of the land utilization of universities, the second is the students'behavior characteristics and land demand. Then mainly from the macro and micro two aspects analyze the characteristics of research Universities and land utilization, including the cubage, land per person, house per person, the nine items of school building and specific targets like the classroom per student, laboratory per student, library per student and dormitory per student.
