Nowadays,Arctic region has become the focus of international attention with its rich natural resources, convenient waterways and vital military strategic positions.Due to climate warming, the exploiting of the reserved natural resources and the navigation of the Arctic channel is becoming possible.Whether it is from the prospective of the geographical position or the demand for resources,China is definitely the stakeholder country of Arctic region. Thus,it is of vital significance for the future development of China to study, understand and take advantage of Arctic region. In this paper,we conduct a wide range of research and analysis on Arctic region as a whole, with eight surrounding countries consisting of 29 districts,by using the official statistics of each nation on the resources, total population, fertility rate, mortality rate, life expectancy, the causes of death, age structure, gender structure, population migration, economic status, industrial structure, labor status and other aspects of Arctic region. On the population front, there exists a big difference between Arctic regions and non-Arctic regions of each country in terms of the population distribution, population density, population structure, demographic trends and other aspects. The Russian Arctic has a lesser degree of aging, followed by North America and Europe's most serious. In the area of population migration, the population moving out in the Russian Arctic region is more serious, but in recent years, the trend has slowed down.On the economic front, the unemployment rate in Arctic regions of each nation is high and the contribution of regional GDP is smal. The unreasonable economical structure of most of Arctic administrative areas, where the primary and secondary industry are the pillar industry, has experienced a certain improvement, but no substantial change.Wholesale and retail, real estate, transport warehousing industry maintains a high proportion in the service industry and the proportion of tourism in some areas has also increased. The proportion of health and social work in each district has increased by varying degrees. In order to realize the coordinated development of population, resources and environment in Arctic region, combined with the results of this research, the author puts forward the following suggestions.Firstly, strengthen the research efforts of Arctic region;secondly, encourage non-Arctic countries to participate in the development and protection of Arctic region;thirdly, reinforce the training of professional and technical personnel in Arctic region;fourthly, vigorously develop the port city construction and improve the port location conditions;fifthly, build a multi-industrial structure system;finally, pay much attention to the living environment of indigenous peoples and encourage them to get involved in the process of Arctic development.
