Innovation is the driving force for sustainable development of the city and often occurs in the city.With the development of economy and the improvement of the level of urbanization,the scale of our city is becoming larger and larger and technological innovation ability is also more and more strong.The Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is the largest urban agglomeration which has the highest economic development level and the strongest technological innovation ability.Taking the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration as the research object,this paper studies the relationship between the urban scale and the technological innovation ability which is of great significance for the construction of the urban agglomeration and the innovative city.This paper takes the city scale and technology innovation ability as the research object.Firstly,reviewing the research and theoretical basis on the city scale and the abilities of technology innovation at home and abroad,and then analyzing the influence mechanism of urban scale on technological innovation from four aspects: the agglomeration of enterprises and industries,the gathering of talents,the effect of social network and the effect of market demand.According to the theoretical analysis,we put forward four hypotheses to be tested.Secondly,this paper analyzes the present situation of the urban scale and technological innovation ability of the 26 cities in the Yangtze River Delta,then divides urban scale as urban population scale,economic scale and land use scale and divides technological innovation as innovation output,innovation input and innovation investment.And this paper analyses the correlation between urban scale and technological innovation by using the method of canonical correlation analysis.Thirdly,the spatial correlation of the technological innovation capability represented by the patent application quantity is examined by the quantitative analysis method.Finally,the SAR model is selected to verify the effect of urban scale ontechnological innovation capability based on two spatial weight matrices and the panel data of 2008~2014 years.The robustness test is also adopted.The main conclusions are as follows: Firstly,the canonical correlation analysis shows that there is a significant correlation between urban scale and technological innovation capability;Secondly,the spatial correlation test shows that technological innovation capability has spatial agglomeration effect.Thirdly,the empirical results of the spatial panel model show that the technological innovation capability has a spatial spillover effect,and the city scale is positively related to the technological innovation capability that the larger the city is,the stronger the ability of technological innovation.Except urban scale,industrial agglomeration and transportation infrastructure also have a significant positive impact on technological innovation capability,but the impact of foreign direct investment on technological innovation capability does not pass the significant test.Finally,this paper puts forward the relevant countermeasures and suggestions according to the empirical analysis results and pointed out the shortcomings of this study.
