| University Town is the integrated form under the influence of sharp development in higher education and urbanization in China.Since the late 1990s,due to an increasing demand for education and the orientation of market development,a great many University Town construction projects have been developed.But before most of the University City projects were formally launched,they lacked in-depth planning and analysis,clear development orientation and corresponding development strategies,leading to the same form and a lack of uniqueness in construction style.Besides,the projects take up a lot urban construction lands,and gradually become separated from their surrounding modern service industry clusters without promoting the development.This thesis aims to sort out the concept,development and significance of University Town and modern service industry clusters,explore the interactive connection between the development of University Town and its surrounding corresponding modern service industry clusters and analyze their active roles.Taking the construction of International Innovation Park(also known as "the city of Guangzhou International Innovation Park",hereinafter referred to as it)as a case,this thesis will also explore developmental strategies and measures for modern service industry clusters under the backdrop of Guangzhou University Town,provide suggestions for related policies and offer scientific basis for government decision-making in terms of further expanding the capability of University Town,full realizing "intellectual core" influence of University Town,leading the transformation of regional economic growing mode and pushing harmonious development.Firstly,introducing the raises questions which explores the significance of connecting University Town and the development of its surrounding modern service industry clusters under the backdrop of economic globalization and the development of higher education.It also sorts out the domestic and overseas research findings related to the University Town,modern service industry and modern service industry clusters that this thesis concerns.It raises the research objectives,content,methods and technical routes of this paper and comprehensively describes the interactive effects of University Town and modern service industry clusters as well.Secondly,theoretical methods are listed,agglomeration theory,human capital theory,systematic innovation theory and the growing pole theory included.It analyzes the concrete impact University Town has on the development of its surrounding modern service industry clusters.Namely,the construction and development of University Town promotes the development of modern service industry clusters through changing the way land is used and influencing the adjustment of regional industry structure.Based on the impact University Town has on the development of its surrounding,This chapter also covers the important role University Town plays in enhancing competitiveness of its surrounding modern service industry clusters in terms of talent competitiveness,including factors such as the support from human capital and high-tech industries,optimizing and upgrading living and recreating environment as well as diversity and inclusiveness of communities.Then with an emphasis on the case study of Guangzhou International Innovation Park,explores the situation of interactive development of University Town in Guangzhou and its advantages.It also summarizes the present developmental difficulties Guangzhou International Innovation Park faces.In the end of this chapter,outlines some foreign cases of the development of modern industrial clusters which are associated with universities.Then introduce Silicon Valley which has become a successful and representative case between University Town and its surrounding modern service industry clusters.The latter part summarizes the experience that can be got from Silicon Valley to be applied to the development of Guangzhou International Innovation Park.At last,practical suggestions for policies are putting forward,combining the problems that arise during the process of developing modern service industry clusters in Guangzhou International Innovation Park.Finally,it summarizes the positive role that University Town plays in its surrounding modern service industry clusters and the problems to be addressed.It is widely believed that University Town will play an important role in China's development in years to come. |
