As the essential component of the basic electronic devices, Connector products have decades of development history. With the development and popularization of consumer electronics and family cars, the connector industry is developing fast. Since the consumer electronics technology upgrade of connector products quickly, life cycle of connector products are short, the requirements for the product development cycle and development costs of connector products become more and more strict. Shorter development cycle, lower development cost are the only ways for the suppliers to take the fancy of extensive customers. Therefore, it is very important to import a management model which can shorten the development cycle and reduce the development cost in the process of connector product development. In the early 90 s of last century,Integrated product development(IPD) was be imported to product development management by IBM(America),the results show that, IBM achieved a 50% reduction target of time to market and product development cost control. IPD helped IBM to be out of the crisis.S Group China is a Japanese owned company who produce connector products. With manufacturing centers shifting to China, the Chinese market has become the largest market share of its sales. But facing heavy competition from Chinese connector market, S group didn’t achieve industry leading level neither technology nor costs, especially in the early stages, all products of S group are developed by Japanese company, which leads to long product development cycle and high costs. As a warning for the future, S group China decided to improve their product development and promoted IPD management mode at the same time, to improve the development efficiency and reduce development cost of their connector products.This paper reviews the evolution of IPD theory, based on the in depth study of the IPD management model, combined with the outside conditions, industry environment, and the internal environment of S group China, to shows the necessity of promoting IPD system. We will compare the effects before and after S group China imported IPD system to prove promote IPD system is a very correct decision...
