Research On The Status Of China's Equipment Manufacturing Industry In Global Value Chain And Its Influencing Factors

As a pillar industry of the national economy,equipment manufacturing industry is developing rapidly these years.Both its industrial scale and international competitiveness have been improved steadily and some high-tech equipment manufacturing are in top level around the world.Compared with the developed countries,there is still a big gap for China.In international trade,its position in global value chain lags behind developed countries and even some developing countries.Based on the theory of global value chain and competitive advantage theory and existing research results of many scholars,this paper analyzes the factors that affect the status of equipment manufacturing industry in global value chain.Status of equipment manufacturing industry in global value chain in 24 countries,including China,are measured based on world input-output table,and the status of subdivision departments of China,USA and Japan are calculated too.After qualitative analysis and selection,the international panel data model is used to analyze the influence factors of equipment manufacturing industry in the global value chain.The result of the empirical analysis shows:(1)From the 2011 data,Chinese equipment manufacturing industry has a small trade profitability and a low position in global value chain.As to the subdivision department,Chinese transportation equipment manufacturing industry develops much better and in the forefront of the world,while the general equipment manufacturing and electronic and optical equipment manufacturing industry are at the lower end of the ranking.(2)From 2002 to 2011,the general changing trend of the trade profitability of the equipment manufacturing industry in China is similar to that in the United States and Japan but the change in China is obviously more severe.Electronic and optical equipment manufacturing industry develops much worse than that in the United States and Japan,and it lead to the overall backwardness of Chinese equipment manufacturing industry.(3)Labor force and R&D input level have a significant positive impact on the global value chain status of equipment manufacturing industry in China,while industry scale and degree of dependence on foreign trade have a significant negative impact.The impact of exports structure is not clear,and the result shows a negative impact on Chinese equipment manufacturing industry.Finally,the paper puts forward the suggestions to improve the GVC status of Chinese equipment manufacturing industry based on the result of the empirical analysis,providing a reference for the development of equipment manufacturing industry.
