Kuaiji was administered by Yangzhou in Han Dynasty.At the beginning of being set,it administered the area of Wu and Yue,which was in the south of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu,southeast of Anhui,West of Shanghai and north of Zhejiang.By the end of the Western Han Dynasty,Kuaiji administered 26 counties,which is in Suzhou,Wuxi,Changzhou,Zhenjiang,west of Shanghai,most of Zhejiang and coastal area in central Fujian.At the middle period of the Eastern Han Dynasty,it was separated into Wu County and Kuaiji,and its seat was moved to Shanyin and administered 15 counties.Kuaiji was located in in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.Its climate is suitable,and it had a number of fertile land and plenty of water.These provided a basic condition for the development of agricultural economy.The development of economy depended on the suport of internal and external condition:first of all,the development of the pre-Qin agricultural accumulated much experience;Second,the society was stable,there were a few natural disasters and social unrests.These attracted a large number of migration and increased agricultural labouring population;Third,the government Attached great importance to the governance issues.The leaders had faborable background and had political achievements In their tenures;Fourth,the farmers used cattle ploughing and iron tools widely;Fifth,it expanded transportation in Han Dynasty,and this created conditions for economic and technical communication.With the dual function of the natural environment and social factors,agricultural economy in Kuaiji made a great achievement during Han Dynasty.The production department in Kuaiji was complete.Plantation,Animal Husbandry,fishery,forestry developed from the pre-Qin.The development mainly showed in the following aspects: first,the food production increased and Kuaiji could help other counties;Second,the croplands expanded with the distruction of the water conservancyprojects;third,agricultural products were machininged and constantly put into the circulation market.The commercialization of agricultural products developed further.Forth,the quantity of population grew rapidly,the growing of administering counties indicated the growth of population too;Fifth,the increasing of the settlement indicated that the spread of agricultural space became larger;The last but not least,there are much more magnates in Kuaiji during the East Han Dynasty than before,their strength became stronger too.By contrasting the development of the West Han Dynasty and the East Han Dynasty,we will find that agriculture in Kuaiji made great progress in the East Han Dynasty and made contribution to the development of local industry,commerce and education.Of course,we should recognize the division between Kuaiji and advanced areas.Many factors restricted its development,such as:the agriculture in Kuaiji started lowly and developed slowly because it was difficult to absorb advanced technology;The appearance of ' South slow north fast' existed in the development of the agriculture;Though the government pacified the revolt of minorities,Kuaiji was still attacked by Shan-Yue who fled into the mountains.We should have a correct view on the development of agricultural economy in Jingzhou of the Eastern Han Dynasty.It not only helps us restore the agricultural economy,but also plays a part in our current agricultural development.
