Poor food distribution is perhaps one of the most significant factors to cause chronic hunger worldwide. The aim of the food supply chain distribution is not only to connect producers with consumers, but also to allocate the food accordingly. The food distribution process in Venezuela faced serious issues due to the inefficient supply chain of food, which doesn‘t satisfy the consumers‘ demand. The routes from the storage units to the arrival on the shelves of the distribution centers are being supervised by authorities because the current plan has proven to be inefficient. This requires the development of new knowledge of the specific logistic systems to be able to identify successful approaches to improve the food supply chain in the country.Important questions may arise such as whether locals and food producers can transport their goods more efficiently and how they can improve through cooperation and integration. This investigation presents the content of the research background and significance, followed by the problem statement,a framework from the Venezuelan company ―Empresas Polar‖,a company with proven experience in food supply chain used as a reference for the investigation, and a SWOT analysis leveraging information from a cause-effect diagram and the changes on the logistical processes. An analysis of the above mentioned will illustrate how improvements in the food supply chain can be effective if the strategies proposed in this research are implemented.A comparative analysis focuses on the current Venezuela‘s government food distribution program(CLAPs)and Empresas Polar Company as a private company in charge of the food distribution since 1941,on which I based my proposal to improve the distribution logistic 2017,with a clearly comparison taking into account 12 categories that allow us to observe the differences, advantages and disadvantages of both parameters, allowing the viewer’s eyes to obtain a clear, simple and concise conclusion of the situation.Contributions of this investigation provides a better understanding of why the actual process is proven to be inefficient and how to optimize it aligning the base framework of ―Empresas Polar‖ with the new theoretical contributions proposed in this study in order to specifically improve the food distribution system from the ―Aragua‖ state to the small cities nearby.Findings from this research will provide food distributors with new empirical and theoretical knowledge regarding best practices in food distribution systems. The results show the increase in the orders and the dispatches in the logistical process, and solve the shortage of inventory. All these records are defined by a series of indicators for monitoring the entire logistics and then perform a complete evaluation of the service level of the Aragua‘s center of distribution,in order to improve the current system to avoid the stock issues at the national level.
