Research On The Influence Of The The Import Of Intermediate Goods On The Export Technology Structure Of Chinese Equipment Manufacturing Industry

Since the 1980s,with developing of the world economy,the evolution of economic globalization as well as the continuous creation and innovation of high-tech,the international specialization is becoming increasingly popular.Diversified ways of division of labor and cooperation was developing,more detailed and in-depth.The production process of a product split into different sections frequently,and assigned to different countries or regions for specialized production.This new international specialization broke out the pattern which a country takes on the entire production process originally,and brought the profound changes of the trade model.In the context of this economic situation,all the intermediate trade over the world has been developing rapidly,and the total quantity has been increasing day by day.Since China joined the WTO in the beginning of this century,with the continuous convergence of China and the world economy,foreign trade of China has got remarkable achievements,also the intermediate trade of China had been rapidly developing,especially the trade of the equipment manufacturing has amazing growth rate.At present,intermediate trade accounted for more than 70%of total imports and exports of China,and the imports of the equipment manufacturing industry accounted for more than 60%of total imports in intermediate trade of China.The technology level of equipment manufacturing industry represents a country's international specialization status.What's more,equipment manufacturing industry is not the main force of the national economy,but also the core areas of technological innovation and industrialization.However,there are some problems at present China,such as overcapacity,underground export technology,still dominated by processing trade and low technical content and so on.These problems which seriously hinders the development of high-end equipment manufacturing industry of China.Therefore,in order to illustrate the current problems of equipment manufacturing industry of China,my paper will focus on the analysis of the import of intermediate goods on the structural changes of export of equipment manufacturing industry.Research on the import of intermediate products and the export technology structure have been always the focus of domestic and foreign scholars.There are many literature about the theory of export technology structure throughout the academic community,and its measure has changed,that transfer from the traditional calculation of revealed export technical complexity to the way of considering the practical significance,which removed trade value added.In addition,the focus of its research is also different from the previous measurement of indicators and analysis on the changes of indicators to analysis on the factors of the impact.However,there are many factors that affect the export technology structure,but few literature on the impact of the import of intermediate goods on the current export technology structure.In view of this,my paper will combine the related research of the export technology structure to study the impact of imports of intermediate goods on exports technical structure from the theoretical and empirical aspects respectively.First of all,this article use ways of United Nations SITC(Rec.3)to correspond to the Chinese national economic industry,rationally selecting related sub-industry of equipment manufacturing industry on the original basis,using the corresponding relationship of the United Nations HS Customs code and SITC(Rec.3)to select the import and export trade volume of the equipment manufacturing industry,and then analyzing status and scale of export of China's equipment manufacturing industry.At the same time,the export technology structure of equipment manufacturing industry is calculated on the basis of considering the export realities of China.In order to make the measured value of the export technical structure more accurate and in line with China's reality,it is in the calculation of data removed from the processing trade imports.From measurement results of the export technology structure of Chinese equipment manufacturing industry point of view,the more developed areas of higher export technology content,the less developed areas of lower export technology content.For the technical content of seven sub-industry of equipment manufacturing industry,the regions with high export technological content mainly concentrated in the transportation,electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing and communications computers and other electronic equipment manufacturing.Surprisingly,Instrumentation and cultural office equipment manufacturing industry needs a higher technical level,but its export technology content is not high in China.Then,this article also focuses on the transmission mechanism of the import of intermediate goods enhancing export technology structure of China's equipment manufacturing industry.First,the technical spillovers directly or indirectly promote the improvement of productivity,so as to optimize the export technology structure.Second,equipment manufacturing industry can generate cluster effects and expanding the market scale through economies of scale,so as to promote technological progress and improve the export technology structure.On the empirical side,this paper chooses the import data of intermediate products of 30 provinces of China from 2009 to 2014,and separately studies the influence of the import of intermediate goods on the export technology structure of equipment manufacturing industry using static analysis,dynamic analysis and spatial panel model analysis.The empirical results show that the import of intermediate products has a significant positive impact on the export technology structure of the export products of equipment manufacturing industry.In the study of the import of intermediate goods effecting on the export technology structure of the equipment manufacturing industry between the neighboring provinces,it was found that there was a space technology spillover in the import of intermediate products,such as general equipment manufacturing,electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing,instrumentation and cultural office equipment manufacturing.That is,the technical level of the imported intermediate products in these industries has a positive impact on the export technology structure in neighboring provinces.Finally,the relevant policy suggestions are put forward on the basis of analyzing the three kinds of empirical results.
