Abstract/Summary:
In the era of economic globalization, economic cooperations between countries are becoming more and more closely, the mutual dependence is further improved.Since 2008,the global financial crisis led to the rise of trade protectionism, growth rate of global trade fell. With the great reduction of tariff and non-tariff barriers, the role of traditional trade barriers playing in impeding global trade is limited. The "non-trade efficiency" issue and the pursuit of a more transparent, stable and efficient trading environment have been widely concerned by all countries. To start with, this thesis introduces various definitions of trade facilitation and its theoretical development.Followed by is the analysis of the mechanism of how trade facilitation influences export. Then this thesis constructs trade facilitation index system which consists of 4 first-level indicators and 14 second-level indicators. As for the empirical part, this thesis constructs multiple regression models that use the panel data of China’s top 50 export markets with the time period from 2010 to 2016.The regression results show that higher trade facilitation level of importer is positively associated with higher export volume of China.Trade facilitation measures are more effective in promoting trade than tariff reductions. As for impacts of different trade facilitation indicators on China’s exports, all these indicators are positively related to export volume with an exception of port efficiency. The greatest increase in China’s export volume would come from improvements in area of financial services and e-business usage.Improvements in customs and regulatory environment significantly promote trade but to a lesser degree than improvements in financial services and e-business usage.Variable of port efficiency does not pass the significance test.Based on empirical results, the final chapter provides some policy suggestions on how to boost China’s exports and discusses limitations and future areas of research.
