The evaluation of regional sustainable development based on the ecological footprint model is an important means of quantitative research on regional sustainable development.Taking Zigong City as an example, this paper uses the ecological footprint model to estimate the per capita ecological footprint, per capita ecological carrying capacity and per capita ecological deficit(surplus)of Zigong City in the past11 years. The regional difference analysis of the ecological supply and demand balance of cultivated land was carried out by using the cultivated land ecological supply and demand balance model. The multi-index sustainable development evaluation model based on ecological footprint model is used to evaluate the sustainable development of Zigong City in the past 11 years, analyze the problems existing in the sustainable development of Zigong City and propose corresponding countermeasures. The main findings are:(1)In the past 11 years, the annual average per capita ecological footprint of Zigong City was 0.9159hm2/person,showing a fluctuating downward trend. The annual average per capita ecological footprint of various bio-productive lands in the past 11 years is: fossil energy land(63.02%)> cultivated land(25.8%)> grassland(10.36%)>construction land(0.39%)> forest land(0.22%)> Waters(0.19%).In the past 11 years, the average annual per capita ecological carrying capacity of Zigong City is 0.271hm2/person,showing a downward trend.Among them, the per capita ecological carrying capacity of forest land and waters increased year by year, and the ecological carrying capacity of cultivated land, grassland and construction land decreased. The annual average per capita ecological carrying capacity of Zigong City is: cultivated land(72%)> grassland(25.89%)> forest land(1.7%)> water area(0.26%)>construction land(0.15%)..In the past 11 years, the average annual per capitaecological deficit of Zigong City was 0.6447hm2/person,which showed a general downward trend. The annual average per capita ecological deficit of each bio-productive land is: fossil energy land(95.17%)> grassland(2.43%)> cultivated land(2.25%)> construction land(0.52%)> waters(0.16%)> forest land(-0.53%).(2)In the past 11 years, the ecological footprint of cultivated land in Zigong City has shown a downward trend, and the difference in the ecological footprint of per capita cultivated land in the six counties is decreasing. The ecological carrying capacity of cultivated land in the city showed a downward trend, and the difference in ecological carrying capacity of ecological per capita cultivated land between counties increased. In the past 11 years, the ecological supply and demand balance index of cultivated land in the city has dropped from 1.12 to 1.09,and the ecological supply and demand balance of cultivated land has improved, showing a critical overload condition. In terms of counties and districts, there are obvious regional differences in the ecological supply and demand balance index(EI)of cultivated land in Zigong City.Judging from the difference between the four districts and the two counties, there has been no significant change in the status of the four districts in the past 11 years, and the evaluation level of the ecological supply and demand balance of cultivated land has not changed. The state of the two counties decreased greatly. The EI values of Rongxian County and Fushun County decreased by 11.08% and 20.99%,respectively.The evaluation of the ecological supply and demand balance of cultivated land changed from balance to surplus and overload to balance.(3)In terms of multi-indicator evaluation of sustainable development based on ecological footprint, the ecological footprint of 10,000 yuan GDP from Gong City has been decreasing year by year(from 0.8629hm2/10,000 in 2006 to 0.2063hm2/10,000 in2016),indicating that Zigong city achieves intensive use of resources while the economy is growing at a high speed. The city's ecological footprint diversity index decreased slightly(between 0.77 and 0.898,with a mean of 0.837),indicating that the ecological footprint of Zigong City is basically stable. The economic development capability index of Zigong City's ecosystem has shown a downward trend, indicating that Zigong's sustainable development capacity has increased. The ecological stress index and ecological footprint index of Zigong City showed a downward trend in the early period(2006-2011).In the past three years, the ecological stress index and ecological footprint index of Zigong City have improved. In the past 11 years, the city's annual average ecological footprint index is-2.385,and the region's unsustainabledevelopment status is more prominent, but in recent years, regional sustainable development capacity has increased. In the past 11 years, the annual average ecological coordination degree of Zigong City was 1.243,indicating that the ecological demand of Zigong City is greater than the ecological supply and is in an ecological imbalance.(4)In the sustainable development of Zigong City, there are problems such as excessive energy consumption, small ecological carrying capacity of cultivated land, and significant regional differences. The following measures should be taken to improve the level of sustainable development: improve energy efficiency, implement stricter farmland protection policies, improve agricultural production levels, optimize industrial structure, and return farmland to forests and grasslands.
