Tourmaline has been widely used in recent years because of its piezoelectric,far-infrared and anionic properties.However,the single tourmaline limited its wider application;many scholars mixed it with polymers to produce tourmaline/polymer composites.The new materials have both the advantages of both,and can reduce the cost,with more far-reaching research significance.Due to the strong polarity of tourmaline,it is not easy to be dispersed in the matrix of non-polar polymer,which leads to the difficult processing of composite materials,and will affect the properties of composite materials,so the surface modification of tourmaline is required.In this paper,the surface modification of tourmaline is firstly carried out.Tourmaline/ABS composites,tourmaline/LLDPE composites and tourmaline/PP composites were prepared through mixing,extrusion granulation and injection molding,using modified tourmaline and ABS,LLDPE and PP respectively.The properties and structures of the three composites were tested and characterized.The main results are as follows:1.Study on surface modification of tourmalineThe surface of tourmaline was modified with titanate as coupling agent,and toluene as solvent was selected.The effects of milling time,modifier dosage,reaction time,modified temperature and pulp ratio on the experimental results were investigated.The modification effect of tourmaline was tested and characterized by means of activation index method,contact Angle method,oil-wet degree method,infrared spectrum analysis,thermogravimetric analysis and XRD,and the better modification process conditions were finally determined.The results shows that the activation index of tourmaline before modification is basically 0 and it could be up to98%after modification.Contact Angle is 91.2°before modification;modification is143.5°,increased by 57%than before modification.The oil-wet degree is close to 0before modification and 66%after modification,which proves the success of surface modification of tourmaline.XRD indicates that the surface modification of tourmaline have no effect on the crystal structure of tourmaline.2.Preparation and properties of tourmaline/(ABS,LLDPE,PP)compositesThree kinds of functional composites were prepared by combining modified tourmaline with three kinds of polymers.The influences of tourmaline content(1%,2%,3%,4%and 5%)(wt%,the same below)on the tensile strength,impact strength and negative ion release of the composites materials were investigated.The research results are as follows:(1)Tourmaline/ABS compositeAnd it turns out,when the addition amount of tourmaline is 2%,the tensile strength of the tourmaline/ABS composite is the highest,which is 45.05 MPa,11%more than pure ABS material.The impact strength is 31.50 KJ/m~2,18%more than pure ABS material.Negative ion release is 290 ions/cm~3.When the addition amount is3%,the impact performance is the best,and the impact strength is 36.80 KJ/m~2,38%more than pure ABS material.At this time,the tensile strength of the composite material is 42.60 MPa,5%more than pure ABS material.Negative ion release is 450ions/cm~3.(2)Tourmaline/LLDPE compositeWhen the tourmaline content is 2%,all indexes of the tourmaline/LLDPE composite are the best.At this time,the tensile strength of the composite material is16.57 MPa,3%more than pure ABS material.The impact strength is 47.90 KJ/m~2,46%more than pure ABS material.Negative ion release is 280 ions/cm~3.(3)Tourmaline/PP compositesWhen the tourmaline content is 3%,all indexes of the tourmaline/PP functional composite material are the best.At this time,the tensile strength of the composite material is 14.31 MPa,15%more than pure ABS material.The impact strength is32.50 KJ/m~2,58%more than pure ABS material.Negative ion release is 420ions/cm~3.The fracture section of the composite was observed by SEM.It can be seen from the SEM diagram that the modified tourmaline was evenly dispersed in the polymer matrix without large aggregates and the composite had a clear interface.According to the above experimental results,the modified tourmaline is dispersed evenly in the polymer matrix,and the tensile strength,impact strength and negative ion release of the three kinds of composite materials increase to a certain extent,meeting the requirements for the use of the material.
