Research On The Relationship Between Trade Openness And Environmental Pollution

Under the background of trade opening between countries,the degree of trade deepened,the contradiction between trade and the environment became a controversial issue of academic debate.There are mainly three views about the relationship between trade and environment pollution: strengthen the environmental pollution,decrease the environmental pollution and uncertain effect.Trade opening also case three effects structural impacts,economies of scale and technological effects which have different effects on environmental pollution.This article study the relationship with theoretical analysis and empirical analysis.In the theoretical part,this paper chooses the Pollution Trade Terms(PTT)and the effect of "Pollution Haven" as basis analysis.Although China's production technology are still lower than many developed countries,China has escape from being a "Pollution Haven" in trade.Now the government still pay attention to the use of foreign capital in constant,so as to avoid this situation.From the empirical analysis part,we choose the relevant data of 261 prefecture-level cities in China from 2003 to 2016,and using regression model,fixed model,stochastic model,two-way fixed effect model,xtscc model.As for the variables,we choose industrial dust emissions,industrial sulfur dioxide emissions and industrial waste-water discharge as the representative of environmental pollution.GDP for each person,the total import and export of goods,the actual use of foreign capital and other economic data as independent variables.We also take the time and geographical impact into account.From the results of data analysis and theoretical analysis,we can see that the impact of China's trade opening on environmental pollution is uncertain,which differs according to the differences of industry,region and openness.However the expansion of the scope of trade liberalization,iron and steel smelting,coal processing,transportation will be a certain extent to reduce China's environmental pollution,and non-ferrous metal smelting,sulfuric acid manufacturing,paper,chemicals,textiles and beverages industry will exacerbate China's environmental pollution.At the same time,government's invest on science and technology and the actual use of foreign capital on the impact of environmental pollution showed a more significant negative correlation.Therefore,China's trade opening needs to adapt to the local economic development and environmental pollution situation.Making suitable environmental policies,improving the FDI standard and environmental regulation,improving the technology ability to decrease environment pollution.
