Generally Traditional villages means a kind of villages that have formed during or before the Republic of China and retained largely the historical evolution(built environment,style,village location etc.)with unique folk customs.Although traditional villages have experienced a long history but they can still work.A traditional village is abundant in its natural or cultural landscape and the high values of thihistory,culture,art,architecture,society,etc.,which is a series of important carriers of China's long history and culture.Traditional villages will become an important future research focus in the field of heritage conservation in China.Traditional Villages are affected by a large number of natural and social factors during the process of their formation and development and they are the products of a great variety of interact activities between culture and environment.Now they are facing some adverse conditions.For example,in many traditional villages the original space forms have been changed and the cultural context from history has been cut off.In fact,Cultural Ecology Theory provides an adaptive perspective to avoid or mitigate this phenomenon relatively.Cultural Ecology Theory aims at the relationship between human beings and the natural and artificial environment when human beings create culture,emphasizing the interaction between culture and environment.Cultural ecology space means a kind of organic complex space that provide conditions needed by some interrelated cultural groups when they participate in some activities of culture creation and spread to these groups within a certain period of time and that is affected by these activities.Cultural ecology space could be divided into material space,spiritual space and social space and would have material,spiritural and social attributes at the same time.Therefore,considering some historical records,this paper selects a traditional village named Zhangguying in Hunan Provence as a study.Using the perspective of Cultural Ecology Theory as a reference,the paper investigates and researches Zhangguying's cultural ecology space from spatial composition,characteristics and relative influencing elements,including sorting out the composition of material space,spiritual space and social space separately,studying the characteristics of material,spiritual and social attributes of Zhangguying's cultural ecology space,and analyzing several main relative influencing elements impacting upon the composition and characteristics above.The main conclusions are as follows.1.Zhangguying's cultural ecology space is consist of artificial material space and natural material space,artificial spiritual space and natural spiritual space,artificial social space and natural social space.Each has a certain distribution area.2.In terms of the characteristics of Zhangguying's cultural ecology space,material characteristics include the capability of growth and adaptability,and spiritual characteristics involve hierarchy,ceremony and humanization,and then social attributes include visualization and universality.3.The main relative influencing elements affecting Zhangguying's cultural ecology space include physical geographical factors,policy factors,ideological and cultural factors,economic factors and technical factors.Physical geographical factors and policy factors impact on the layout of material space mainly.Ideological and cultural factors have main influence on spiritual and social space.Economic factors and technical factors exert effects on the composition and layout of material space mainly.
