The Memory Activation In The Revitalization Of Historic District

As a complex system,the urban memory is concerned about all the aspects of urban circumstance.This paper based on the urgent issues of the historic district renovation,research on the importance of continuation of historic district memory to improve its space environment and create economic value.By studying the structure,characteristics,status of the historic district memory,it raises a possibility of activating memory on the basis of the connection with the space,behavioral and psychological aspects.It dissects the means and methods of memory activation which took in the process of dissolving the problems of shantytown to enhancing the connotation of historic district through studies focusing on Duzheng street of Changsha city.According to the logic of "What—Why—How ",this paper is divided into five parts:Chapter Ⅰ elaborates the origin and background of research,research objects and related concepts.It also proposes five key questions and describes the research methods and outlines the framework of research.Chapter Ⅱ,from a theoretical study of the revival and the memory of the historic district,it began to explore the main line:" What is the Memory of historic district ",and proposed Why should be concerned about the Memory in the historic district;Chapter Ⅲ analyzes the state of the historic district memory,the author proposed"memory activation",which is a new concept,to solve the problem of how to wake up and retain the memory of the historic district,what is more,the author theoretically propose the conditions for the activation of memory about historic district through the association of memory,the space,behavioral and psychological aspects.Chapter IV take the revival planning of Duzheng street of Changsha as a case study,to analyzes the elements of the historic district memory.In additional to the traditional planning,we also can use the memory to design the space.Chapter V combines the practices of Duzheng Street and other cases,the author discusses three working processes and design methods of memory activation process.The author hopefully expect that the research can enlighten architects,planners and urban managers,and have some direct guidance to the people,who live in the historic districts,to maintain and enhance in revival of historic districts.
