Energy is one of the basic elements of economic development.Since the reform and opening up,China’s economy has maintained rapid growth, becoming the world’s second largest economy. At present,China is the world’s largest energy producing and consuming country, and the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide.Increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions are important goals of China’s energy development strategy. With the acceleration of China’s industrialization process, problems such as energy shortages and environmental pollution have become extremely prominent, which severely hinder China’s economic green development.Raising energy efficiency is the key to solve the energy shortages and environmental pollution that China faces at the current stage. It is also an indispensable requirement for meeting the people’s growing needs for a better life. This paper first introduces the research background and significance, reviews the domestic and foreign literature, uses the super-efficiency DEA model to calculate the energy efficiency of Chinese provinces and cities from 2000 to 2015,and compares the energy efficiency between each province, city and the eight economic regions in China.Secondly, three different spatial weight matrices are set up,and Moran’s I index is used to examine the spatial correlation of energy efficiency, measure the spatial correlation coefficient.Thirdly, taking inter-provincial energy efficiency as an explanatory variable, eight macroeconomic indicators are selected as explanatory variables, while considering spatial correlation of economic activities, and establishing the spatial Durbin model to analyze energy efficiency influencing factors. The results show that: China’s inter-provincial energy efficiency is spatially positive.Under different weight matrix, the influence factors have different influence on energy efficiency. There is a non-linear relationship between the level of economic development and energy efficiency.Technological progress, foreign trade dependence, and foreign direct investment have positive effects on energy efficiency.Industrial structure, energy consumption structure and factor endowment have a negative impact on energy efficiency. The decline in the proportion of secondary industry and inefficient coal consumption are conducive to improving the energy consumption structure and further energy efficiency.Increasing investment in capital and labor may reduce the consumption of energy. Finally, according to the direction and size of the influencing factors, this paper provides countermeasures and suggestions for China’s current economic green development and improvement of energy efficiency.Using the spatial correlation of energy efficiency,we should transform the pattern of economic growth, optimize the industrial structure and energy consumption structure, encourage scientific and technological innovation, and increase openness to the outside world.
