| China is a country with huge energy consumption. In recent years, environmental damage caused by energy consumption has caused a great negative impact on the welfare level and health status of the residents. In response to this problem, this article introduces the concept of energy intensity of human well-being.Different from traditional energy efficiency indicators, energy intensity of human well-being has got rid of the traditional thinking mode of measuring energy efficiency by economic output, and can evaluate energy efficiency from a perspective of health. Therefore, research on energy intensity of human well-being is of great significance for achieving "Healthy China" and sustainable development. The paper first measures the energy intensity of human well-being of China’s provinces from 2005 to 2016.Based on the measurement results, the paper explores the spatial distribution characteristics and changing trends of energy intensity of human well-being to analyze whether there is a spatial autocorrelation.Secondly, the paper employs the Theil index to measure the spatio-temporal differences in energy intensity of human well-being at the national level and in the eastern, central, and western regions of China and tests the convergence pattern of energy intensity of human well-being through convergence research methods. Then, based on the diagnosis results of spatial autocorrelation, the paper constructs a spatial Durbin model to conduct empirical research on the influencing factors of energy intensity of human well-being.Finally,the paper draws the conclusions of the study and proposes corresponding policy recommendations based on the conclusions. The main conclusions of this article are:(1)The spatial distribution of China’s energy intensity of human well-being shows spatial cluster characteristics. The provinces with high energy intensity of human wellbeing mainly cluster in the northwest region, and the provinces with low energy intensity of human well-being mainly cluster in the central and southeast coastal regions. As well, energy intensity of human well-being in China shows an agglomeration mode of "low-low" cluster. These results indicate that there is a strong spatial autocorrelation and the test of Moran’s Index also support the existence of a spatial autocorrelation.(2)The overall difference in China’s energy intensity of human well-being has increased year by year, and the overall difference is mainly caused by intra-regional differences, but the impact of inter-regional differences on overall differences has an upward trend. In addition, the differences in energy intensity of human well-being in different regions show different trends. The intra-regional differences in the eastern region first increased and then fluctuated and declined during the research period;the central region generally showed a downward trend;and the western region had a significant upward trend. In terms of the contribution to the overall difference, the western region has the highest contribution rate, followed by the central region and the smallest in the eastern region. And the contribution rate of western regions is still increasing.(3)Convergence test results show that, except for the central region, there is no σ convergence in the eastern and western regions and at the national level. But in the eastern, central, western regions and at the national level, the energy intensity of human well-being shows an absolute β convergence. In terms of the rate of change in energy intensity of human well-being,the speed of western region is least affected by the initial level of energy intensity of human well-being.(4)The empirical results of spatial Durbin model show that: From the perspective of direct effects, industrial structure, urbanization level, energy structure and per capita disposable income can positively affect the local energy intensity of human well-being;while foreign direct investment, public health expenditure and technological progress can negatively impact local energy intensity of human well-being.From the perspective of indirect effects, industrial structure, energy structure, foreign direct investment, public health expenditure and technological progress have significant space spillover effects.Among them, the industrial structure has a positive spatial spillover effect on energy intensity of human well-being;energy consumption structure, foreign direct investment, public health expenditure and technological progress have a negative spatial spillover effect on energy intensity of human well-being.The paper contains 22 figures,12 tables and 122 literatures. |
