With the growing of economic,the transportation system plays an essential role for both passenger and freight logistic.Passengers Service Providers are looking for better transportation mode choice which is beneficial to them such as reduce travel time,travel cost,cleanliness,better safety expectative,comfort,better view while on boarding,or the satisfaction of frequency of operation.The improvement of customer satisfaction level could attract the customer heart though the competition with other type of mode such as road,rail,air,and waterway.In every country,there is competition between mode of transportation,the government as well as the private operation company try to provide more transportation system that would reduce the high traffic demand on one mode that cause many problems such as traffic jam,accident,lowering economic growth,and so forth.This paper will be presented the comparison between passenger transportation and other type of mode choice in southern part of Cambodia that are consisted of Phnom Penh,Takeo,Kampot and Sihanoukville.This corridor is a strategic location for business and travel purpose.Moreover,the tourism sector in Cambodia is the second main source of income for the country as a whole.Nevertheless,there is imbalance between the mode choice preferences for the passenger as well logistic provider due to limited level of satisfaction.Through observation,road transportation is the market leader and most passenger prefers this mode choice due to its competitive advantages.To optimize the benefit of using rail transportation,this paper is tried to find out what the influencing factors of passenger satisfaction mode choice by doing survey questionnaire for both Cambodian and foreign tourists to evaluate the relationship between the mode choice and its satisfaction factor.The survey was appeared with measurement over their mode choice preference for that corridor and other relevant influencing factors such as ticket or gasoline expense,travel time,cleanliness,safety,comfort,natural view,and frequency of transport operation.Moreover,it studied the utility of both mode choice within the Logit Choice Model by running the binary logistic regression as well as multinomial logistic regression in the SPSS Software.A brief summary of data collection is also presented in the paper with various graph for broader understanding and analyzing the current situation along the line.As a result of model analysis,the binary logistic regression provided more predicted accuracy rate of 89.7%and final model of mode choice of passenger toward southern line in Cambodia was significant influences by some independent variables such as ticket price,travel time,cleanliness,safety expectation,and comfort.Rail passenger transportation should be strengthen its operation in order to gain market share.Therefore,the propose strategies are needed to deal with its challenges.To evaluate the quality of the developed model,several tests were made,obtaining encouraging results.Furthermore,my research finding was compared and contrasted with other relevant researchers to prove that there is a different context of passenger satisfaction factor in different case.As a consequence,the real influencing factors were found for passengers' mode choice preference were travel time,cleanliness,safety expectation,and comfort.Thus,several strategies was proposed such as:decreasing ticket price for long distance traveler,increasing ticket price for short distance traveler,increasing train's holding capacity by adding more train's coach,collaborating between operating company and government to solve rubbish issue along track line,checking on board about cleanliness by operation officers,doing maintenance regularly,building fence along rail line,building traffic control in cross section,improving knowledge of residents,widening seat in formal atmosphere for business passenger,increasing free internet speed and better seat arrangement for student,designing sleeping and dining cars for long distance traveler,providing standard seat for short distance traveler with a folding table in front of their seat.These strategies will be used to improve and compete to gain market share for rail transportation in the future.
