Building information modeling(BIM)plays a significant role in improving the efficiency and reducing the waste in the design and construction stages of the construction industry.With the vigorous development of BIM technology and information technology in construction industry,more and more practical projects had applied BIM technology,which had played a significant role.In the field of steel structure,the design of three-dimensional joints based on BIM technology is conducive to improving design efficiency,construction quality and reducing project cost,compared with the traditional steel structure design based on two-dimensional drawings.So,BIM technology has a good application and promotion for the steel structure industry.As the mainstream design software of the global manufacturing industry,CATIA has a very powerful function in parametric 3d design.This paper made an in-depth study of CATIA parametric modeling techniques and secondary development techniques.A three dimensional design software of steel structure joints had been developed,which could be used for joints design,project model integration,bearing capacity checking,etc.The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1)Briefly introduced the development and research status of BIM technology,and listed the application of BIM technology in global construction projects.Introducing the parametric modeling technology and the secondary development.Technology of CATIA software.(2)The technical description,main modules and use methods of the three dimensional design software for steel structure joints were introduced.The software carried on secondary development to CATIA through the Visual Basic6.0 editor,realized the transformation of the analysis model in the structural calculation software into a refined three-dimensional solid model of the steel structure,and could perform a series of tasks such as the parameterized design of the joint and the calculation of bearing capacity.(3)The developed software was used to create a three-dimensional model of the awning steel structure of Zhengzhou East Railway Station.Through the structural analysis model exported by SAP2000,the steel truss joints and bifurcation column joints of the awning steel structure of Zhengzhou East Railway Station were built in batches,and the complete structural solid model was built.Combining three-dimensional model,the three dimensional roaming,the checking calculation of the bearing capacity,the finite element analysis and the output of the two-dimensional drawings of the complex joints were carried out.(4)Combined with the developed software,the steel structure 3D model of Zhangzhou West Station was created.The Zhangzhou West Railway Station was divided into five parts:the steel structure roof,the roof support,the steel structure protruding from the front facade,and the concrete part.Finally,an integrated three-dimensional fine model was created.The welded hollow spherical joints of the steel structure roof part were designed and compared with the original design,and the use of steel was reduced when the bearing capacity is satisfied.During the process of creating the three-dimensional model of roof support,the problem of rod collision that was not found during the drawing of two-dimensional drawings was found and solved.The development of three dimensional design software based on BIM technology was an active exploration of the application of BIM technology in the field of steel structure engineering.Combined with an engineering example showed that compared with the traditional modeling method,the adoption of BIM technology in steel structure three-dimensional joint design had the advantages of fast modeling,high accuracy,high degree of refinement,and easy modification,etc.The developed three-dimensional design software for steel structural joints could quickly complete the parametric design of a large number of joints in the steel structure engineering and the creation of a three-dimensional refinement model.The joint model and connecting rod were integrated into the whole three-dimensional model of structural engineering,and the checking calculation of the bearing capacity of the joint could be completed.
