The area of Xinjiang grassland is vast and wide,accounting for about 1/6 of the total area of grassland in China.Xinjiang is one of the most important pastoral areas in china.To peasant and herdsman in pastoral areas,the grassland is their basic means of production for survival and development.To Xinjiang ecological environment,it is the important ecological barrier.To many rare animals and plant,the grassland is their specific survival area.Therefore,it is of great significant for agriculture of Xinjiang and pastoralist 'life and the sustainable development of ecological environment,if we could obtain information on grassland productivity,bearing capacity and other information,and then scientifically manage and rationally use grassland resources timely and accurately.Grassland resources monitoring includes grassland productivity,grassland vegetation growth status and grassland ecological protection project benefit monitoring and other aspects.It is time-consuming and can not cover the whole Xinjiang although the measured accuracy of the total herbage yield using the conventional means is very high.In recent years,the use of remote sensing technology to monitor grassland resources has become an important approach for grassland productivity research and grassland management.A great deal of work have been done by domestic and foreign scholarsinthis area.However,we acquired that most of their effort focused on the research of carring capacity of grassland during certain period or time,and there has been less work on application-oriented automation.Therefore,combined with RS and GIS technology andaccording to the characteristics of terrain,grassland type and growth environment in Xinjiang,this paper carried out the study of the remote sensing estimation of grass production,carrying capacity remote sensing estimation and pasture growth monitoring in Xinjiang region using the MODIS/MODIS13Q1 NDVI daye with 250 m spatial resolution.The realization of the above algorithm was implemented based on the IDL programming language.The main contents and conclusions are as follows:(1)In this study,MODIS-NDVI and ground-based sample data at the same period was utilized to model the relationship between grass yield of the seven types and RS data,respectively.Then,we estimate the grass production in Xinjiang in 2015 based on an optimal regression model.(2)Based on the calculation formula for the carrying capacity of grass,the reasonable carrying capacity of Xinjiang in 2015 was estimated.And we use ArcGIS to produce a statistical model of grass production in Xinjiang and a statistical model for the amount of livestock carried out,so as to achieve rapid statistics on the amount of grass production and reasonable stocking capacity for each type of grassland in each county in each state in Xinjiang.And the balance of livestock in Xinjiang was calculated and analyzed in 2015.(3)Based on the calculation formula of vegetation growth,the pasture growth situation in Xinjiang in the past three years in July,2014,2015 and 2016 was compared and analyzed using the method of contemporaneous comparison.(4)The experimental verification shows that the semi-automatic process by IDL programming of estimate grass production by remote sensing,estimate carrying capacity by remote sensing and monitoring the pasture growth in the whole region of Xinjiang in this paper is more time-saving and efficient than conventional software operation processes.
