The traditional manufacturing mode goes like this: design-manufacture-test – operation.Remodification and remanufacture are needed if problems such as assembly are found out during the manufacturing process,which is not conducive to improving the efficiency.With the development of Virtual Reality(VR)technology and three-dimensional(3D)modeling technology,3D modeling software can be used to establish a 1:1 model and VR technology can be employed to simulate the assembly process of the real objects before traditional assembly operation.By applying collision detection technology to predict the feasibility of the assembly path in the virtual assembly process,experts can more immensely and intuitively exchange the professional knowledge in the virtual environment,and thus predict the design defects.This has gained much attention among enterprises and scientific research institutions.Therefore,the present study laid the focus on the ship assembly simulation based on VR technology.The paper firstly presents the 3D model required in the construction of assembly stimulation with modeling software and import the model into the VR development software to build a virtual manufacturing scenario.Then,the digital sample ship model constructed by professional ship design software is transferred to the 3D modeling software,and the details are optimized to be a realistic simulation model,which is then imported into the VR development software.Finally,a sub-interactive virtual assembly procedure is achieved by using programming technology and collision detection technology is used to realize the interference of components in the assembly process,thus predicting the feasibility of the assembly path.The program is ultimately integrated with the VR hardware to form a complete virtual reality system.In this paper,the research and development of ship section virtual assembly sim ulation system based on VR technology is to achieve the following functions: virtualassembly free view function,subsection virtual assembly function,the feasibility of virtual assembly path verification function,ring section of the total group simulation function,manufacturing process simulation function.The human-computer interaction mode is natural and easy to use.Through the virtual reality hardware device,the co ntent of the simulation can be completely and vividly presented,giving the user an immersive virtual experience.The system developed in the present paper can be appli ed to college teaching,worker training and so on.In addition,different fields of exp erts can gather together to experience the assembly process in the virtual environmen t,exchange the expertise as well as predict the problems that may arise in the asse mbly process.Nowadays,shipbuilding tends to be informationalized and intelligentize d.Sub-section assembly simulation based on VR technology,i.e.virtual assembly,isin line with the trend of intelligent manufacturing and thereby it is of particular en gineering application value and has a positive social significance.
