| Competency research originated in the 1970 s and was presented by Harvard university professor in1973 in the article " test competency rather than test intelligence".The main purpose of competency research was used to find out the common or similar characteristics of excellent performance achievers.With these characteristics or attributes,the company or firms can recruit,train,develop,and evaluate with a great way and also it can provide good reference or according.With the conduction of national strategy of“ Blue Sea ” of China,the shipping industry will be on a faster development stage.Meanwhile,the reorganization of COSCO and CHINA shipping company,the size of the fleet has increased dramatically,the ship 's large-scale and modern development is more and more fast,the captain driving and managing a ship task is becoming more and more difficult,the enterprise requirements for the captain is also more and more high.Thus,the task of studying the captain 's competence is very urgent.Based on the current situation and the future development of China shipping industry,this paper takes endeavors to find the competency of large container ship captain and further to put forward the improving model.The author used open questionnaires,behavior interviews and other methods to build the captain competency model.It is found shipping knowledge,shipping driving skills,shipping management skills,shipping occupational quality,and shipping political awareness comprise the five factors of shipping captain.And their weight are 10%?20%?35%?25%? 10%.On the basis of competency model,we optimize the selection and performance evaluation of large container ship captain in COSCO SHIPPING company.Meanwhile,this paper has its limitations,the future research can develop more effective measure scale and conduct more empirical research to further enrich this relevant research. |
