With the acceleration of the urbanization process in China,small towns have been seriously divided and gradually become the bottleneck restricting the development of urban and rural areas.Under the background of new urbanization,it is very important to maintain the vitality and attraction of small towns,and it is significant to promote the development of small towns by developing commercial format space.At present,comprehensive research on city commercial format space have been mature,while comprehensive research on small towns' commercial format space is still worth exploring.The existing research results show that the formation of commercial format space is the common result of many factors,such as economy,land use,population,transportation and consumers.The data of this paper is selected on the basis of former studies in accordance with the principle of science,integrity,accessibility,operability and comparability.The data is also in consideration of the investigation and data collection situation.Because of the complexity of the interaction,this paper uses coupling analysis method to explore the correlation and coupling degree between the commercial format space and six related influencing factors in small towns of Northeast China including economic development,land use,traffic conditions,population conditions,historical culture and tourism resources,and residents' consumption to find the mechanism of interaction between commercial format space and related influencing factors.Correlation results show that the interaction of commercial format space and related influencing factors is complicated and closely in small towns in Northeast China.The results of correlation degree were mostly higher than 0.6 and some of them are highly correlated.Economic development,land use,population conditions and traffic conditions are the supporting conditions for the development of commercial format space.Format type and layout situation are influenced by the consumption and tendency of local residents to a certain extent.The historical and cultural factors determine the rudiment of commercial format space and bring some opportunities for the development together with tourism resources.There are only two types of coupling degree results : low level coupling and grinding-in coupling,which indicates that the small towns are at a low level of development or in the developing stage.The coupling degree reflects that the commercial format space and economic development can not support each other well.The development of residential land,the development of external traffic and the vitality of population are important factors that affect the spatial development level of commercial format space.Finally,according to the data analysis results,this paper put s forward the optimization suggestions for the commercial format space.The results of this study have a certain guiding role for the harmonious and healthy development of commercial format space.
