Rapid development of shipbuilding industry and expanding of shipbuilding companies in China has put out higher requirement of enterprise management level.Optimization of project schedule control could be a crucial breakthrough to improve management level.Ship building is a kind of large engineering projects,which requires huge amount of work and cooperation between various professionals.Each ship building project has an individualized yet complex system affected by numerous factors.Therefore,using project management can achieve better results for ship building.Work Breakdown Structure(WBS),Gantt Chart method,Critical Path Method,Network Diagram Method and other project management tools and skills have been applied to the ship building management process and play a role.However,project schedule of ship building is affected by various constraint factors,such as …,the above-mentioned methods fail to take multiple factors into account.Critical Chain Method is a new method of applying the Theory of Constraints to project management,and it will be able to play a better role for project schedule in shipbuilding.This paper analyzes the problems existing in the project time management of the docking stage of the bulk carrier in the A company,and improves and consummates with the knowledge,tools and techniques of project management.Firstly,we analyze the key factors with which A company's bulk carrier building progress is difficult to be controlled.Secondly,we use WBS,Define Activities,Sort Activities,Estimate Activity Resources and Estimate Activity Durations,Develop Schedule,Control Schedule and other tools and technology to improve the single ship building management.Furthermore,the Critical Chain Method is used to control the production schedule.With the application of the Critical Chain Method in project management,the shipbuilding in the dry dock is more controllable,the actual completion date is 10 days ahead of the planned completion date;the labor resources are more balanced and the production efficiency increases by 12.5%.Progress management with the Critical Chain Method ensures the smooth implementation of the project,while obtaining higher efficiency and ensuring good operation of the A company.
