Well-being is both personal pursuit and governmental target all around world.Public welfare is the destination for economic growth and public policy.As China urbanizes its countryside,issues are incessantly revealed and aggravated,seriously interfering with the life of urban inhabitants.Consequently,the public is regarding highly of well-being of urban life.As Chinese society advances,priority given to urban development has shifted from economic contribution to the function of well-being.Welfare,efficiency and justice are replacing GDP as new focus of researches on urban life.A city of happiness is the target for urban planning when it is designed to be diverse,considerate and flexible.How shall urban planning couple inhabitants’ subjective well-being?Researches have yet to be concluded.Inappropriate or lack of interference has caused misunderstanding about the relationship between urban planning and personal well-being.To explore the impacts that urban planning might have on subjective well-being,this article relies on theoretical summary,quantitative analysis and confirmative interviews to get an outline of the relationship between urban planning and inhabitants’ subjective well-being.Firstly,it outlines a number of indicators possibly related to residents’ sense of happiness and their functions.It finds out that urban-rural difference,real estate ownership,house prices,city size and microscopic design are the factors that might interfere with inhabitants’ subjective well-being.Secondly,the article combines environmental psychology theories with actual planning to build a frame of interaction between urban planning and subjective well-being.As a result,such relationship appears to be evident in value judgment,goal accordance,effective control of urban planning space,and urban inhabitants’ preferences of spatial forms.Thirdly,employing ordinal logistic regression and relying on CGSS2010 investigation results,statistical yearbook data and the sixth population census data,the article examines the quantitative impacts of the urban development land per capita indicators system on subjective well-being.The research finds out that urban development land per capita,residential land per capita,road and street land per capita,green space per capita,are correlated to subjective well-being,which will increase as residential land per capita,road and street land per capita grow and as urban development land per capita and green space per capita decrease.Every unit increase of standard deviation of urban developed residential land per capita,of residential land per capita,of road and street land per capita,of regional GDP,of green space per capita,will result in decrease by 2.8%,increase by 4.2%,increase by 7.5%,increase by 5.2%and decease by 4.7%,respectively,of the possibility for residents to enhance their subjective well-being.Fourthly,interviews confirm that urban planners and the average public differ in their perception toward subjective well-being,which urban planners argue against but residents mostly agree on.Finally,it makes a conclusion on the article and puts forward the direction of further research in the future.The whole thesis contains about 52000 words,35 pictures and charts.
