The full name of Taiwan Governor Museum was "Taiwan Governor Ministry of Civil Affairs Japanese Bureau-affiliated Museum",it's build in Japanese colonial period for consolidating regime,it's new building was used for a memorial hall of the fourth governor Kodama Gentaro and Civil affairs officer Gotou shinbei at the same time.This building was built in 1915,which is Taiwan's oldest existing museum.It has an important historical position.Although this building was designed by the Japanese,its interior design is given priority to western classical style,it is a integration of elements from the west,Taiwan and Japan,it shows features of Colonial Eclecticism in this period.The mean purpose of this research is to try to reemerge the interior situation of Taiwan Governor Museum back then from 1915 to 1945.To build the basic information of its interior design history and analysis it deeply.To expect to summarize the influence of interior design from Japan,West and Taiwan in Taiwan's Japanese colonial period.To explore the topic about how the features from three regions merged in the same building.Then use this as hitting-point of related follow-up study.This research based on the indoor part of old photographs and existing plans,by integrating with relevant historical literature and field study,to analysis the building interior space organization,space evolution,traffic flows,exhibits and exhibition way,etc.And through the comparison of the old photos,organize the selection of elevation,ceiling,floor materials,modelling of interior decoration,its symbolism and luminous environment design.To integrate the space of the museum interior design,decoration,structure,material,technology,exhibition,luminous environment,etc.The thesis integrate and pay attention to this museum's different aspects,to combine with Colonial Eclecticism.Then we can find that every aspect of this building's interior design contain the features from Japan,West and Taiwan.This thesis could it as "Colonial Eclecticism",it is a architectural trend showed in Japanese colonial period,the architects choose one or more western architecture styles from different period and region,to combine with elements from Japan and Taiwan.In a word,this thesis study from the perspective of the history of the museum development,research history,space,decoration,structure,material,technology,exhibition,luminous environment respectively from three periods,and then,integrating into the interior design circumstance of Taiwan Governor Museum from 1915 to 1945.
