A Study On The Application Of The Illustration In The Specialty Packaging

With the change of consumption concept and the development of cultural industry,illustrator as a form of artistic expression,is widely used in all kinds of product packaging design,in the local specialty packaging applications are also increasingly common.Based on the background of "informationization" and"globalization" in today ’s society,through data analysing,market researching and field investigation,this paper analyzes the characteristics and the development trend of specialty packaging,investigates the advantages and usages of illustrations in specialty packaging,researches the expression,methods and principles of illustrations applied in the specialty packaging.The outcome of the research shows that:regional,emotional sustenance and portability is the main difference between the specialty packaging and the general product packaging.It is important for the modern specialty packaging design adhering to the regionality while integrating the traditional and fashion aesthetic.In the mean time the design should reflect the emotional requirement from individual consumer and focus on creating brand image of specialty product.On the other hand,illustrations serves as interpretation,decoration.It has higher flexibility on creativity compares to photography.Comparing to text form,illustrations are more convenient and efficient when it comes to deliver information.Therefore,using illustrations in the design of special packaging plays a big role at delivering the message of the product,branding,and individualising the product.In addition,the designer should grasp the principles of "meeting the modern aesthetic standard,suitable for packaging,fitting the product’s characteristics" while using illustrations in the design of a specialty packaging.The designer should select the appropriate illustrative form and the expression elements,themes,etc.So that the value of using illustrations in specialty packaging can be maximised.In the end,the article also refers to the design process of illustrations in some special products from Fuding to further clarify the design method and application ideas of illustrations in specialty packaging.I am striving to provide a certain theoretical basis and reference to illustration designers so that more people can understand the value of illustrations in the specialty packaging.
