A Research On The Restoration Of Wu's West Garden

With its special location and regional culture,Wenzhou has created its unique characteristics in landscape.However,due to various reasons,there are only few private gardens still exists,and the research on it is also rare.This paper starts with sorting out and summarizing the development characteristics and gardening style of Wenzhou's private gardens,trying to mine more information of Wu's Residence in Cangnan,Wenzhou and analyse it,so as to visualize the whole scene of the house,especially the garden aside in Qing dynasty.And then,the paper tries to summarize the features of its garden art,and put forward some suggestions for its protection and restoration.What's more,the study on the garden design of Wu's garden is also an "exploration" and "revival" of private gardens in Wenzhou to some extent.Firstly,this paper makes a preliminary exploration of the history,classification and vital elements of Wenzhou's private gardens by using literary works in successive dynasties and local chronicles in different areas in the background of Wenzhou's development in history,this helps to produce a more holistic understanding of them and also provide a theoretical basis for the analysis of garden art next.It is also a try to fill the gaps in the research of Wenzhou's private garden.Secondly,it explores the background of Wu's residence.This paper studies both the natural and culture environment of the site of the house,the related characters and the existing buildings,so as to do a good preliminary analysis for the restoration of the garden.Thirdly,the layout of the garden is restored through relevant information,Finally,the art of the garden is analyzed and some suggestions on the restoration and protection of Wu's homestead are put forward based on the current situation.The writing foundation of this paper is to extract and summarize the information from various county chronicles and the literati's works of past dynasties which is related to private gardens in Wenzhou;to screen the works of the owners and the related literati,and to extract,translate and interpret the useful elements.The key point is to classify and sort out the extracted garden elements,and to analyze and integrate the relationship among them,so as to restore the garden and make a comprehensive analysis of its art of landscape:the garden located in the plain crisscrossed with rivers,it contains a variety of landscaping techniques and unique humanistic conception in such a small space,and is also a combination of the characteristics of traditional gardens in Jiangnan area and the regional features of Wenzhou.Combining with the foregoing,it is concluded that the formation of the style of private gardens in Wenzhou area is largely influenced by its natural environment,historical immigration,the prevalence of landscape culture,and the aesthetic conceptions and artistry of gardens in Jiangnan region.
