A large amount of statistical data and case evidence indicate that pilots acquire and process a lot of visual information during flight operations.Information overload can overload the brain, causing human accidents.Take the Cessna 172 SP aircraft as the research object, this paper comprehensively applies the subjective evaluation method, performance evaluation method and physiological measurement method to measure the mental workload in each stage of the fivesided flight process. In this way to judge the influence of the visual interface of the navigation aircraft on the mental workload of the pilot,to provides a basis for the optimal design of the navigation display interface,in order to reducing the mental workload of the pilot during the flight mission and improving the safety of the flight. The eye tracking technology is used to locate the interface information of the pilots in different mental workload flight phases, and to determine the visual factors that have a great impact on the mental workload.Based on the experimental results and the interview results of the participants, the visual design of the small aircraft visual interface was optimized based on the mental workload. Finally, the feasibility of the design results is analyzed. The study found that the pilot had a lower mental workload during the leveling phase and a greater mental workload during the descending phase.Side-slip indicators, heading, and airspeed and altimeter have a large impact on the overall mental workload. In summary, the brain load measurement combined with the eye index can effectively evaluate the navigation plane display interface.
