Transportation is an important way for goods distribution and personnel travel between cities and within cities,and is a powerful foundation for urban development.At the end of the twentieth century,with the incremental development of the city and the adjustment of the industrial structure,a large number of transportion industrial heritages were idle and faced with demolition.Transport industrial heritage,as an important heritage category in the industrial heritage category,has less research attention than other types of industrial heritage and lacks systematic research.Wuhan is a city that “has a city due to water”,and the water-land transportation system is of great significance to the city of Wuhan.In modern times,Wuhan has built a considerable number of transportation-type industrial spaces including water terminal,railway station,and joint transportation system node space.However,the current state of preservation of Wuhan's transportation industry heritage is not optimistic.This paper takes Wuhan transportation industry heritage as the research object,and studies its protection and regeneration from the perspective of place characteristics.Firstly,based on the classification and concept definition of Wuhan water-land transportation,this paper analyzes the initial spatial coordinates of waterway transportation,railway transportation and composite transportation space from the historical dimension,and reveals that its initial spatial orientation is closely related to the built environment.Secondly,on the basis of the investigation of the transportation industrial heritage within the main urban area of Wuhan,the relationship between its existing status and the initial and current built environment is analyzed,and based on the principle of type coverage,the principle of similarity,the principle of value orientation,and the researchability.Based on the principle,a typical case of eight transport industrial heritage sites in Wuhan was screened out.Furthermore,based on the relationship between transport industrial heritage and cities,the typical cases are divided into three categories: from separation to integration,from edge to center,and continuous spatio-temporal status,and further development of Wuhan-based industrial heritage based sites.The analysis of the relationship between the volitional temporal and spatial persistence relationship,the spatial pattern,and the spatial transformation direction.Finally,this paper conducts a parallel comparative study on the protection and regeneration strategies of similar transportation industrial heritages in Wuhan and other cities in China,and reveals the commonalities and characteristics of similar industrial heritage protection and regeneration methods under different urban built environment and space characteristics.Suggestions for future practice of transport industrial heritage.
