Offshore support vessels are designed to be comprehensive function, diversification and larger hull scale, whose demand becomes diversified with the exploitation of marine resource. In recent years,a new type of offshore support vessels--X-bow has been invented and widely used. There are large difference in lines character and resistance performance between X-bows and traditional bulbous bows.Offshore support vessels' line character and function are collated and analyzed here.Calm water resistance of bulb ship is calculated in a CFD software STAR-CCM+.The computed results are compared with model test resistance. It shows that the numerical simulation can reasonably predict calm water resistance.Flow field characteristics around the ship hull are analyzed.A new type of X-bow model is founded based on its hull characters.Average Reynolds calculation method is used to predict the hull resistance. The calculated frictional and residual resistance are compared between bulbous bow ship and X-bow ship.It founds that residual resistance is the main factor causing the resistance performance difference.X-bow ship conduct better resistance performance at high speed. The simulation of the models of auxiliary work vessel with wide hull lines and former appendage are conducted.Resistance performance changes caused by the former appendage are analyzed. It comes out that the former appendage has large effect on residual resistance, thus make suggestions for ship lines optimization.
