Garden water management plays a very important role in the design of modern urban gardens. In Chinese gardens, the landscape and artistic conception of water and gardens are inextricably linked, which also makes the Chinese landscape water gardening method unique.Xishu Garden differs from the three representative regional gardens of Jiangnan Garden,Lingnan Garden, and Northern Garden. The area is mostly shallow hills and plains, and it is rich in water. Therefore, many water scenes are very beatiful.Studying the waterscape method of gardens in Xishu is of great significance for the inheritance, reference and development of regional gardens. This article summarizes and analyzes the waterscape management methods of the three representative regional gardens, the evolution of Xishu Garden from ancient times to the present, and various influencing factors. Then the article divides Xishu Garden into four types, which are the Zhaiyuan Garden, the Temple Garden, the Ciyu Garden, and the Yashu Garden. It conducts on-site surveying and mapping of the representative gardens of Xijiashan Residence,Manjusri Monastery,Dufu Cottage,Xindu Fragrance Lake and other representative gardens of Xishu, and gives a detailed analysis and summary of its waterscape features.Using methods such as literature research, field research, induction analysis, comparative research, etc.,we strive to systematically analyze the similarities and differences between the waterscape methodology of Xishu Garden and different types of garden. The main research results of this paper include:(1)The influence of different influencing factors on the four types of Xishu Garden is different, but in Xishu Garden, both in the design of water management and in the style of water management, they all pay attention to conformity to nature, plainness and simplicity, and return to nature.Among them,Du Fu Cottage as a representative;(2)The layout features of the waterscape in Xishu Garden are all decentralized, except for the combination of dynamic and static water features of Qingcheng Mountain and Du Fu Cottage. In addition to the Qingcheng Mountain,Du Fu Cottage and Xindu Fragrance Lake, the revetment types adopt the form of a combination of soft and hard revetments. The rest of the garden adopts hard revetments such as block stones, bars, pebbles, etc.,thereby reflecting the idea of Xishu Garden in adjusting the water to local conditions and drawing materials locally.Except for the reason of the area, the garden of the Zhaiyuan Garden has only a pond, which is a form of water management. The other types of garden water are rich in design forms such as ponds,streams,lakes,ditches,etc.;(3)Bridges,ancient buildings, plants, etc.,which play an important role in the waterscapes of Xishu Garden. And in addition to traditional methods such as sheltering, partitioning, and breaking in Xishu Garden,Taoist philosophizing was added, and according to the difference in the area of water, the use of stacking rockery or building islands was selected to enrich the waterscape space;(4)The waterscapes of Xishu Garden are diverse in artistic conception, and the different types are: quiet, inaction(the Zhaiyuan Garden);quiet, peaceful, and beautiful(the Temple Garden);leisurely(the Ciyu Garden);fresh and bright, elegant and distant(the Yashu Garden);(5)compared with the three representative regional gardens in China, the common feature is that the water features are mainly static, and the difference is mainly due to the influence of traditional Taoist philosophies and historic celebrities that distinguishes Xishu Garden from the three representative regional gardens in terms of water management techniques, rational water style, rational water conception and waterscape significance.
