At present, many cities have begun to develop urban underground space. The large-scale underground pedestrian system has begun to take shape. The underground intersection space serves as an important node of the underground street and carries a large number of people. However, due to the lack of natural factors and poor air circulation, there are widespread problems such as closed depression in underground streets. How to improve the space experience of underground streets has become an urgent problem to be solved. The variety of spatial forms of the intersection gives people a different feeling, which is one of the important factors that affect the experience and cognition of the underground street. Now there are few studies on the spatial and cognition of underground intersections at home and abroad, and the research perspective is relatively simple.Based on the three levels of spatial cognition, this thesis explores the correlation between spatial morphology and spatial cognition at the intersection of underground streets, and provides theoretical basis for the design and optimization of underground intersections through the cognition experiment. This study combines investigation and online research to collect data from a total of 112 intersections and construct 9 representative virtual experiment scenarios. The questionnaire is used to quantify the data of spatial cognition. For finding the differences and cognitive rules of spatial cognition in different intersections, this study analyzes the influence of each element on the spatial cognition of intersections with the statistical methods. The conclusion can provide a feasible strategy for intersection space design.Based on the three levels of spatial cognition, this study divides the spatial morphology cognition of underground intersection into three parts: “path selection”,“scene perception” and “cognitive map”.First, the study explores the impact of spatial patterns at the intersection on pedestrian routing. In the experiment, the tendency of path selection in each scene was collected in the form of scene task.It was found that chamfering in the corner of underground intersection has a positive guiding effect on pedestrian path selection. The obtuse angles produced by the oblique intersection of the streets have a positive guiding effect on the path selection, and the acute angle is opposite.Secondly, the study explores the correlation between the components of the intersection and the spatial experience.Based on the above study, the "corner processing" has a great influence on the spatial experience. The degree of corner processing is positively correlated with the spatial experience;the "intersection method" and the "street position relationship" have the relatively low impact on the intersection experience, and the “street misalignment relationship” has a small degree of negative impact.Thirdly, the study explores cognitive patterns of intersections by cognitive maps. The results show that the spatial image constructed in the brain is related to the sequence of the trails;the cognitive levels of each element and each level are different, and the "corner processing" has the highest recognition and the most acceptable;the establishment of spatial imagery has a tendency to "positive intersection" and "alignment relationship".The above three experimental results complement each other and confirm each other. This study summarizes the spatial cognition of intersections, and attempts to propose design suggestions and optimization strategies for practical applications. The content of this study is based on the actual situation of underground streets, and has practical significance. The research conclusions have perfected and referenced the research on the intersection space of domestic underground streets, which has certain theoretical significance;the research conclusions on the design of underground space nodes and other similar spaces Cognitive research has a certain reference role and has a strong promotion significance.
