Translation Of Green Building Standard Under The Context Theory

By analyzing the process of translating LEED 4.0 Homes,this paper manifests the application of context theory in translation and its efficiency to help a translator to solve some typical problems.Firstly,literature review about context theory has been made in this paper to show its development and the connotation and classification of contexts are confirmed;secondly,the application of context theory in translation has been summarized and proper theories are applied to the classified contexts in the process of translation;finally,difficult cases are categorized according to the classification of contexts and translation processes are suggested in accordance with context theory.This paper aims to build different translating models in the light of context theory to improve translators’ work efficiency,especially in translating texts concerning green buildings.Difficult cases in this paper come from three types of contexts: linguistic context,context of situation and context of culture.Analysis of each category leads to conclusions as follows:(1)context theory does help translators to confirm the word meaning,but to solve the problem thoroughly,language skills of translators should be improved;(2)consultation of professional personnel and searching methods should be key factors to solve problems related to context of situation;(3)as for problems related to context of culture,translators should know cultures both of source language and target language.
