In the past, when the environmental control technology was relatively backward, the traditional villages in China adapted to local climate characteristics according to local conditions, and used local materials and rich passive construction experience,to create many village living spaces with relatively comfortable climate environment. At the same time, due to the adaptation to the regional climate in the process of space construction, traditional villages have also formed an overall village style with rich local historical and cultural characteristics. The means and experience of space creation contained therein have great reference value and significance for the general status quo of pure technology and homogeneity in rural construction. However,at present, the related research on the climate adaptation in traditional village space construction in China,is more concentrated on the single level of rural architectures, and it focuses on physical content such as the actual measurement, simulation and evaluation of architectures' thermal performance, but the research on the villagers' living behavior in the village space under the climate adaptation, and the historical and cultural connotation behind the activity space are relatively weak. This article takes this as a starting point, taking a number of representative traditional villages in southern Fujian coastal areas for example, analyzing from the multiple perspectives of the local thermal climate affecting its village construction, life and culture,to explore the experiences and practices related to thermal climate in the coastal areas of southern Fujian. The research method of this paper is based on theoretical knowledge of multidisciplinary sciences such as climatology, planning, architectural physics, humanistic sociology, and theoretical analysis of the construction of village spaces in thermal climate. At the same time, when the research conditions permit, infrared thermal imaging technology was used to visually present the improvement of physical temperature and thermal condition in the experience of space construction, and combining various methods such as literature review, field investigation, villager interviews, and graphic expression to make a detailed analysis of the corresponding experience space of the village. In terms of research content, this paper specifically studies the space of traditional villages along the southern coast of Fujian in thermal climate, which is specifically divided into the following three parts:The first part is background research. It introduces the China's climatic zoning and regional climate characteristics, and summarizes the traditional village space construction under the influence of climate in different regions of China from the regional level, understanding the climate factor,as an important component of natural conditions, has an important impact on the formation of village features, and it also analyzes the characteristics of regional climate types and their relative impacts on people's living habits in the coastal areas of southern Fujian within the scope of the study. The second part is subject research. From the overall layout of the village and the sub-levels of specific streets, plant, water, architectures and so on,it analyzes and combs the experience of low-tech passive space construction in the traditional villages along the southern coast of Fujian in thermal climate. At the overall layout level, traditional villages carefully select sites based on the concept of Fengshui, which contains the simple idea of climate adaptation.Secondly,it points out that during the development process of traditional villages under the influence of climate,it has formed a diversified distribution pattern of thermal climate adaptation, which is different from what of modern new villages, and analyzes the reasons for its formation. At the specific sub-level,it mainly analyzes the street's consideration towards climate from the aspects of street corridors and nodes, and analyzes the development of village architecture, historical culture and people's life behavior reflected in it under the influence of hot climate from different types of buildings such as Minnan dacuo,western-style buildings,Stone house, and various public buildings. Also,it analyzes the effects of plant and water on the climate, the life culture of the village from the principles of climate regulation of plant and water and the different forms of space use.The third part is the contemporary inspiration. It reflects on the neglect of the climate environment in contemporary village construction, and sorts out the characteristics and significance of the traditional village space adapting to the thermal climate environment, and discusses the positive effects of low-tech passive climate adaptation space inheritance in village construction, and proposes that the construction of villages should pay attention to the ecological adaptation to the natural climate and the construction of regional features, and advocates the use of multiple ways, the combination of traditional and modern and the experience of climate adaptation that reflects the cultural style to continue to explore it.
