Under the current background of the Preservation and Renewal of Traditional Districts and Global Climate Changes,the paper focused on the livability and the sustainable development of grey space in southern traditional block waterfront.The paper selected Nanshi River in Changzhou city,Jiangsu in Hot-summer and Cold-winter Area and Sha Powei in Xiamen city,Fujian in Hot-summer and Warm-winter Area as two research objects of grey space in southern traditional town waterfront,analysised the functional layout and classification feature of grey space on the way of configuration.Meanwhile,according to the function of the climate adaptability in the construction of grey space,the thesis proved the function on improving the environmental thermal comfort in the Hot-summer Climatic Region with the subjective questionnaire survey and objective physical test.It made the essay at length concluded the construction experiences and climate adaptation strategies of grey space in southern traditional block waterfront.Primarily,through the ground analysis on layout and form of outdoor waterfront grey spaces in two places,it summed up the functional attributes and building experiences of block gray space and classified the samples,extracted four kinds of typical grey space types in traditional southern waterfront streets on basis: architectural grey space,self-building grey space,accessorial building grey space and vegetative grey space.And then,with the way of using subjective questionnaire survey and objective physical test in summer,the dissertation selected three spatial objects to carry on the test of the climate adaptation combined with local climate characteristics of both cities,aimed at the characteristics of climate adaptability in the construction of grey space.Among both of them,the subjective questionnaire survey was used to count the results of Sensation Vote and Preferred Vote for grey space environment from the subjects,which reflected the subjective feelings on the gray space comfort;the objective physical test was mainly used to test the environmental parameters of test-spaces with taking PMVe and SET* models to comprehensive evaluated and analysised the thermal environment and thermal comfort of the human body.The results showed that the grey space possessed higher comfort than wide space in southern old town waterfront outdoor environments in Hot-Summer Region,the subjects made the higher degree of environmental satisfaction to the gray space.Data of field measurement on grey space showed that,to adapt the climate,the grey spaces tested played an important role of preventing sunstroke and avoiding heat,reducing temperature and increasing humidity,and coping with extreme weather events in summer.The paper finally appraised grey space of southern old waterfront block as a whole in multi-factors evaluation method way,summarized and put forward suggestions to the constructions and climate adaptations on grey spaces.It also put forward the feasible suggestions and ideas for the reshaping of the southern old traditional town waterfront streets and at the same time also provided theoretical references and methodological guidances for the Ecological Energy-saving design and Sustainable Development strategy of street space in southern old towns.
