The traditional villages of Guangfu are a characteristic inhabitation form and a special spatial arrangement in the architectural and cultural system of Guangfu which centers around the Pearl River Delta. The extant traditional villages were mostly built in the Dynasties of Ming and Qing. They are compact in land use planning, neat in layout, and provide the villagers a comfortable space of activity and living, which shows a good adaptability to the damp and hot climate in Lingnan. The villages and houses are highly stylized so the general laws summarized at the scale of corresponding building criterion should be verified and compared in the area of micro-climates in the villages. The main goal of this thesis is to research climate adaptability of the systems of cold lanes and courtyards in traditional villages of Guangfu, propose a proper spatial system model, and verify the model. In accordance with the research background and goal(Chapter 1), the thesis selected the Zhonglou Village in Conghua District, Guangzhou City as the measured object and collect the data relating to the rural micro-climate. Then the collected data were organized and analyzed to extract the fundamental data about the environment of the micro-climate in the village. Afterwards the measured meteorological data were used as forcing condition in the simulation of ENVI-met to obtain simulation data on the rural micro-climate. Hence the reliability and accuracy of the software simulation can be verified based on the comparison between these two sets of data.(Chapter 2)Based on the verification, in Chapter 3, the thesis simulated the micro-climate of three typical traditional villages of Guangfu using the physiology equivalent temperature(PET) as the thermal comfortability indicator. The simulation data indicates that the spaces of cold lanes and courtyards of the tradition villages of Guangfu keeps fine climate adaptivities with different simulation conditions of layouts, orientations. The thesis proposed the special system of “lane-corridor-courtyard-hall” to explain this phenomenon. After the verification of the fine climate adaptivity of the traditional village of Guangfu, the thesis in Chapter 4 investigated the spacial systems of the villages and summarized the types and scales of the two factors of cold lane and three-room-and-two-corridor of the special system to build a standard special scale model. Based on the model, the experiment on the simulation of spacial scales was designed. In the following chapters(Chapter 5, 6, 7), based on the comparison of key meteorological parameters of the simulation data, a further discussion on the effects of widths of cold lanes, depths of courtyards, ways of opening, angles of slope tops on the village climate adaptability was made at the scale of lanes and buildings with the complete thermal comfortability evaluation system of PET. With the discussion, the range of scales of the system of cold lanes and courtyards in traditional villages of Guangfu is verified and delimited. Finally, in accordance of the research of the thesis, Chapter 8 conclude the special scales and building type systems of the systems of cold lanes and courtyards in traditional villages of Guangfu as well as its fine climate adaptability. This thesis will provide the future research on micro-climate and climate adaptability of the traditional villages of Guangfu some reference.
