The health and safety of employees at the workplace has garnered more attention in recent years and has generated a million-dollar discussion by health and safety administrators,stakeholders,policy makers and academics across the globe.Occupational health and safety has been linked to employees' actions and behavior within the organizational setting.To contribute to extant literature on this topical issue,this current study looked at how occupational health and safety affects employees' turnover intention.The study aimed at investigating the effect of occupational health and safety on employees' turnover intention with the mediating effect of organizational commitment.The study developed four objectives.The first objective sought to examine the effect of occupational health and safety on employees' turnover intention.The second objective sought to examine the effect of occupational health and safety on organizational commitment.The third objective was to examine the effect of organizational commitment on turnover intention.Finally,the study sought to test the mediation effect of organizational commitment on the relationship between occupational health and safety and turnover intention.To achieve the afore-mentioned objectives,a quantitative study was conducted in the Ghanaian power industry using the parent entity(Volta River Authority).With stratified sampling technique,350 respondents were selected to partake in the study.However,400 standard questionnaires were administered in order to get the required 350 responses.In analyzing the data,exploratory factor analysis(EFA)was conducted to examine and reduce the data using SPSS version 23 and SMART PLS 3-a structural equation modeling technique was for the data analysis.The result of the data analysis revealed that: occupational health and safety has a significant positive effect on organizational commitment.Again,occupational health and safety was shown to have a significant negative influence on turnover intention.Also,organizational commitment negatively affects turnover intention.Finally,the result of the mediation analysis showed that organizational commitment partially mediates the relationship between occupational health and safety and turnover intention.The result of the analysis implies that getting employees committed to an organization and retaining employees in an organization call for a healthy,safe and sound working environment where the health and safety needs of employees are prioritized and catered for.The study concludes by recommending that management of organizations should prioritize health and safety issues and ensure that the necessary and required policies and programs are implemented and enforced.
